We were looking at this site (Camping Las Arenas) as an option for this year as there are some great reviews from over the past few years.

This year, however, there seem to be a lot of reviews on line saying to avoid this site as it has now become predominantly a glamping site with a huge amount of the pitches taken up by glamping tents and cabins, with the pitches moved to a remote location.

Has anyone been here recently?

I know that you don't book and they find a place for you, but if the number of pitches is limited, is this still a possibility?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!

As no one has answered, I would just say that I wouldn't go near! Find somewhere else nearby, and go and have a look, rather than commit myself to a stay. Some of the photos on Google reviews and Google images look awful.

Use this website, or another such as Eurocampings to find alternative sites near Pechon, and then go and have a look. If it looks acceptable then reserve a pitch and move, if not stay where you are.

Thanks Val. Yes, we were going to avoid, although it is a shame, as there are good reviews on here from 5‐10 years ago. We can't stop progress I suppose, and the campsite have to do what they can to maximise their profit.
There seems to be very little left in the way of beach accesible campsites in Cantabria/ Asturias for July and August, so it was appealing to have an option of a non- booking campsite.

Its inland and has no pool, but I can heartily recommend El Molino Cabuerniga https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=11802 in Cantabria, a nature paradise and when we were there in Aug 19 although busy it never seemed full.

Las Arenas, which we loved in 2019, has changed management and now operates, mainly as a rental site for their own tents ... all identical and set up in series ranks like an army camp!
And ... expensive.
Sadly, I think it's time to avoid.
Cabuerniga is an excellent site ... but ...
Have you considered camping in the Picos? Two very good sites in Potes providing access to this unique area ... check out my reviews for fuller details ...

Hi Kelper, looking at the reviews I see we were both in Cabuerniga in Aug 2019 ... small world !

Kelper, we stayed in Camping La Isla in Potes a few years ago, based on your recommendation. We absolutely loved it. Potes and the Picos is a fabulous area.we are coming back to see more of the area this year.

Ciarri ... glad to hear my recommendation worked for you too ... we've been back to Potes three times, and will probably do so again!
Maybe back to Cantabria/Asturias next year.

Arthur ... small world indeed ... the only drawback to Cabuerniga for me is the inability to Kayak ... Spain, generally is a bit of a problem if you have your own boat ... unlike France, and other European countries, you have to get a license to paddle any river or lake ... and ... a separate one for each river/lake! Local fishermen 'police' it and will report to police, who will meet you when you 'get out' ... coastal waters and estuaries are OK ... but that does limit you.
