Gers is wonderful - real "France Profonde" countryside. Still appears compulsory for farmers to wear a beret. If you like to finish a meal with a "digestif" buy a bottle of Armagnac - knocks the spots off Cognac IMHO. Duck is usually plentiful and relatively cheap for eating in ot out.
Not far from Condom, Fources, a bastide built on a circular pattern rather than the normal squares, and Larressingle, a village built within high walls, are both well worth a visit.
Some interesting wine - Saint Mont, Cotes de Gascogne,the well nigh unpronouncable Pacherenc du Vic-Bihl and the very powerful Madiran red are found locally.
