Evening. I’m thinking about next summer and was wondering what Argeles sur mer is like. We are a family of eight with children aged 2, 6, 9, 11, 14 and 19. Our eldest son will be flying out for a week only. We are hoping to be in Argeles sur mer for three weeks.
Any info/advice about the place would be great.
Thanks
Scott

It's going to be very hot under canvas in summer (assuming July/August)- temperatures of 90F / 33C and above far from unusual.

Thank you for the reply. We camp every year on the med coast at that time so are expecting it to be hot. This year we camped at Les Barcares. I suppose I’m wanting to know more about the area such as water sports, sea front with restaurants/shops, recommended campsites, etc. Thanks.

Back in the dawn of time, when our kids were getting to the point of not wanting to holiday with us any more, we, by plebiscite, decided on a beach holiday, in Argeles. C&CC at the time used Camping Pujol, so we duly booked up. The lad didn't like the beach (him, nothing wrong with it), and the two of them walked back to the site. WE however, were blocked in at the car park, so had an anxious wait until we could get out. In the end, they had a great time, hanging out with the kids round the fůssbal machine, chatting to the chef guys, and enjoying the disco and other entertainments. Gerald and his Magnificent Organ was a great hit, particularly when he took his microphone among the crowd while the keyboard continued to play the click track.
Days out in Elne, Figures, and Collioure, where we have returned since. It's a charming artists town, much like St Ives with added sunshine. I gather there's a pretty campsite, though haven't been. In short, Argeles is a typical French resort town, busy in summer, lively, and oriented to the mass market.

We've been staying in Argeles for the last 20years with our kids.

The area is great for all ages. Aqualand for the waterpark is worth the money, Luna Park is a good night out with fairground rides.

The main beach and the port both have many restaurants to cover everyone's needs. you can hire kayaks or other water based vehicles along the very long beach.

last year we stayed at Camping Pujol which has pitches and mobile homes, with a good pool and excellent bar/restaurant. seemed to have a good kids club, but ours our too old for that now. and all within walking distance of the beach, port and old town.

Thank you for all of the replies. I’m now trying to find a campsite that will allow us on one pitch!

If you email a site, rather than try the automatic booking process, you should find somewhere. This is set up to prevent large groups of young people all on the same pitch. However, on some sites the absolute maximum per pitch is six. There are plenty of sites in Argeles, so good luck with your search.

Hope you are successful with your campsite search. Emphasize that you are one family and not a crowd of teenagers!
About 30 min south of Argeles on the coast road is a hidden gem, the Sentier Sous-Marin de Cerbčre-Banyuls, 66650 Cerbčre. It's a snorkling 'walk' in a little cove with a nice beach and it's free. You can hire, at reasonable cost, flippers ,mask and snorkels at the back of the beach near a little cafe.

Hi Val

Every site that I have emailed have replied saying they only allow a maximum of six. Absolute nightmare!

Thanks AllyPally12. I’ve been really clear with the ages of my kids but still no luck 😭

Then you may have no alternative but to go back to a site you've already used, or book two adjacent pitches. Put your main outfit on one pitch and use the other for socialising - with a gazebo, barbecue, and perhaps a pup tent for the eldest or most independent. If you can go towards the end of August you may find a drop in prices goes some way to the additional pitch cost.
