I find this tends to happen when the touring pitches are mixed up with the statics. It doesn't happen when the groups are separate. Access to the pitches is generally worse in these circumstances too.

Possibly because they are not campers?

Although I find that a lot of French don't show much etiquette re your pitch. I have at times moved my car and / or placed chairs at the bit they are using as a short cut.
Very annoying.

I'm afraid it seems to be a blight that affects ALL aspects of camping, not excusing the static users, but they may not even be aware of the traditional 'etiquette' of not encroaching onto a pitch even when no physical barrier. But the same and other breaches happen all too often these days on all camping pitch sites too!

I organise an annual camping w/e (caravans, campers/MHs, and tents) for a group of rescued dog adopters, last few years I've had to impose written rules, that grow year on year, to counter 'bad/inconsiderate behaviour' that would in the past never have happened because of the largely unwritten etiquette keeping things in check! These are people that have already been screened to some degree, by virtue of having to belong to a select group with high admission standards even to be eligible to join us, then we wheedle out the ones we don't like the look of, they are not 'Joe Public'! The list of rules, is NOT nit-picking, it's pretty much stating the 'bleeding obvious'! - but such is the need to maintain standards!

Even in my personal camping, it's becoming a long list of things that others do but shouldn't! - we are living in an ever more self indulgent, thoughtless, or 'I'll do as I please' world unfortunately.

Well, with over 50 years of camping and caravannong under my belt - at all sorts and sizes of sites in UK plus ten other countries - and I never knew there was meant to be campsite etiquette.. No one ever mentioned rules of behaviour. No one ever behaved in way which troubled me.     I met interesting people, shared drinks with them, listened to music, and watched big international football matches in a crowd,, It never struck me there would be privacy on a campsite.

It’s what sociologists call ‘defensible space’, which varies according to to context, and culture. If you get chatting to Dutch people, they tend to stand closer than British folk do. Similarly, northern Germans ( from historically Protestant areas) sit at separate tables, while those from southern, Catholic regions such as Bavaria, wil happily sit at long communal tables.
But I agree, there seems to be a less formal understanding of space; my theory is that it comes from younger campers learning the craft at festival sites rather than from scouting or other guided youth organisations ( excuse the pun).
Not exactly the same thing, but I had occasion to advise a group sat round, bottles of Prosecco on the go, that their little darlings were having a great time playing with the hose pipe in the CDP emptying area, which might not be the healthiest thing. Not quite etiquette, but awareness of hazards.

Had to chuckle to myself, we had the same at one of our dog owner rallies a few years back, 'parents' were thoroughly obnoxious in many ways, wouldn't heed friendly 'behaviour' advice, so got themselves banned from our group, we've not had to suffer them since. Beggars belief really, but there you go, no accounting for some folks! - strangely no one of the well behaved crowd seemed too bothered about what the kids (they were well old enough to have known better!) caught or passed on to their parents from the CDP hose!!!! I think what annoyed us most was THEIR criticism of other lovely and well behaved children as part of their defence of what their brats were doing!

Luckily we mostly go to CLs with nothing for the ankle biters (sorry, little darlings) to do.

Examples of bad manners on a campsite are what you wouldn’t want at your own home & garden.
Feral child (parents partying & unaware) brings its dog on a lead to cock its leg on our MH step.
My seat is only ever a few paces away from the MH, 2m max; someone is passing too close to my seat if they come under the wind-out awning, or they walk between my seat & the MH.
Please don’t bring your dog up to “say hello” to my dog (she’s attached to the MH), but do stop for a chat at a greater distance.
We were not keen on the chiminerea on the next door pitch burning plastic bottles & other rubbish, while the breeze blew the stink away from them & over us, so we had to go inside on a pleasant evening.
I do think someone has parked their car too close to our pitch if we can’t open the cab door to get in or out.
MHs discharging their grey waste water onto their pitch, leaving bacon bits & toothpaste foam for the next people to step on.
Thankfully, at the many hundreds of sites we’ve stayed on, what we would consider bad manners have happened on fewer than a dozen.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

So we were in France and the site was more or less taken over by statics / cabins.
