We camped at Chantepie nr Saumur in August 2004 for 9 nights. It was a great site with a cover over one of the pools so no worries over sun cream for our children aged 4 & 6. We found lots of places to visit in the area; wineries, chateau, mushroom caves and the brilliant Zoo de Doue amongst other things.
There are only a handful of pitches overlooking the river so don't get your hopes up!
The pitches were all a good size with plenty of water taps dotted around. personally, I would ask for a pitch that is not on the return route from the bar as we has a lot of foot traffic on the gravel past the tent when the bar closed about midnight. Some of the pitches are in the newer 'extension' to the site where the shrubs are smaller so if you want some shade go for the more mature part of site. The cafe and take away on site were fine, the site shop provided the usual fresh criossants / bread every morning.
I will always be grateful to the mole that came up under the groundsheet and spooked my wife about 2am - she let be buy a caravan when we got home! I had my 1st birthday in a caravan and its been nice to get back to it after a10+year gap.
I would recommend the site, we booked via Eurocamp Independent last year but it is also in CC Europe brochure which we've found to be much cheaper for us this year.
