this is a fabulous site. in a lovely area. the pitches vary in size you need to ask when booking.i dont know if you can ask for the pitch you want. the ones over looking the river were full when we were there but we still loved the site. it is very well kept and has a good resturant and take away. there were other eating places quite nearby but we didnt use them. if you like zoo's dont miss the zoo de dou.  while we were there we had the heat wave in august 2 years ago and i was wishing we were near the sea but we spent a lot of time in the pool . you wont be dissapointed with this site.

Matthew

We camped at Chantepie nr Saumur in August 2004 for 9 nights. It was a great site with a cover over one of the pools so no worries over sun cream for our children aged 4 & 6. We found lots of places to visit in the area; wineries, chateau, mushroom caves and the brilliant Zoo de Doue amongst other things.

There are only a handful of pitches overlooking the river so don't get your hopes up!

The pitches were all a good size with plenty of water taps dotted around. personally, I would ask for a pitch that is not on the return route from the bar as we has a lot of foot traffic on the gravel past the tent when the bar closed about midnight. Some of the pitches are in the newer 'extension' to the site where the shrubs are smaller so if you want some shade go for the more mature part of site. The cafe and take away on site were fine, the site shop provided the usual fresh criossants / bread every morning.

I will always be grateful to the mole that came up under the groundsheet and spooked my wife about 2am - she let be buy a caravan when we got home! I had my 1st birthday in a caravan and its been nice to get back to it after a10+year gap.

I would recommend the site, we booked via Eurocamp Independent last year but it is also in CC Europe brochure which we've found to be much cheaper for us this year.

Regards

We've booked to go to Chantepie's sister site - Camping de l'Etang - a few miles away, nr Brissac. I asked a similar question here & had some good feedback on the Etang site and surrounding area a month or two ago as we couldn't decide which to head for. (If you look at messages posted within the last 2 months you should find it) Both seem good by all accounts. Counting the weeks till we start packing!
