I've been browsing the area I want to goto, and nearly all the campsites use the same booking forms (very very similar!!)

Are all these campsites run by the same company? All the web pages are nearly the same too.  And the prices are not much difference.  Is this normal??

I think that its working out at 30euros/night is that average? Also cus I'm taking a camper (small vw) can I put a tent up?? or will that be another sur charge???  Most sites seem to add up the tarriff for wach little thing, very few do a complete price.

Are there any hidden costs that I should be aware of??   Holiday tax of 0.40Epppn is one I have seen so far?

I'd be greatful if anyone can give me a quick guide or outline of what is the norm.

Thanks again PPLE.

Hi,

it depends where you're going and the type of site you're using. The bigger ones will be more expesive than the more rural ones, like ours, and the one run by la Touche. 30 euro's per night seems like pretty much the norm for one with a pool, bar etc.

If you put up a tent on your van, you'll probably be charged extra.

The 40 cents/night tourist tax is levied at the site owner in most departments, some choose to pass it on, some don't.

30euros a night is not bad, I'm going 26/7 to 9/8 on the South of the Vendee and will be paying about 46euro pn, this is for 2 adults 3 children, for a Tent + electric hook-up, on a site 600m from the beach, with pool complex, waterslide, bar etc the tourist tax is normally paid on arrival.

Watch with the Tent though, as they could try and charge you full wack, as if this is average size then it would not normally be classed as an Awning or Gazebo, however if the Tent is small then you could get away with only being charged for a Pup-Tent.

This is only my opinion and should not be taken as the norm

We're a family with 3 kids, 2 adults, trailer tent and  we never pay more than 40Euros with EHU. That's for site with pool etc. On lots of municipal sites you can pay a lot less, the cheapest around 16.50 Euros for all of us but for that you wouldn't normally get a pool. But  I'd agree that the norm is around 30Euros.

If there are only two of you, and you can go outside the main French holidays (about 14 July to 20 August then you can get a bargain using Camping Cheques at £9.95 for pitch/caravan or tent/electricity/two people/car/dog/awning/pup tent whatever.  See their website for details.

hi,

i found the municipal sites to be a lot cheaper, anything from 6 euros up to about 15 a night, that was in may mind you.

lots were close to towns. the cc&c sites cost about 3 times as much, ok you got a pool and a bar with most talking english, but your stuck more in the wilds.
