Can anyone recommend a campsite by Lake Annecy that meets these criteria:

1.   Pitches by the edge of the lake

2.   Direct access onto the cycle track (ie without crossing a road)

3.   Decent facilities

We'll be going off-peak, so will take pot luck on getting a pitch by the water's edge.  And we don't mind driving to shops, restaurants, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Dave and Anne

I don't think that there are any sites that actually have pitches on the side of the lake- as I see it the cycle track is on the side of the lake- anyway we did some research and we are staying at Camping Europa at St Joriez. www.camping-europa.com  in July as far as I can make out I think it is the nearst campsite to the lake even though you so have to travel down a road to it. if anyone knows any different let me know!

Caroline

Hi Caroline

I think you are right. I have chosen Camping-Europa too, as I think that is the closest, at 300km away from the lake. (We are there for 12 nights from 7th Aug - what about you?)

All campsites can be viewed on the Annecy website: http://www.lacannecy.com/.

Hope this helps, Marian.

Actually, this one looks pretty close!

Suggest you have a good look around the website, Dave and Anne.

Hi

We stayed in Annecy for a week last year and as far as I can remember, we didn't see any sites right on the lake.  We did however stay in a lovely site with direct access to the cycle track.  It was called Camping La Ravoire.  The site itself was fantastic and the owners could not have been more helpful.  It was about a 3 minute walk to the lake from the site but you had to cross a road to get to it.

One word of advice for camping in that area!  Take warm bedding.  We were freezing at night, much colder than we have ever been camping in the UK, even in May.  The days were warm and sunny but the nights were freezing.

Thanks for the information so far, folks.

The web site Marian pointed to looks really useful.  But according to my FFCC guide book, there are lots more camp sites around the lake than the few listed there.  And thanks, Pixie, for suggesting La Ravoire - that could turn out to be our choice.

In previous years we have stayed at
1.   "Au coeur du lac" in Sevrier (really nice site, direct onto the cycle track; not quite by the water's edge but fairly close; really high hedges block the views of the mountains on the other side of the lake!) - that's the site Marian quoted the link for
2.   "Le lac bleu" near Doussard (nice site, level, great views from the water's edge, not by the cycle track) - Caroline, we had a lovely pitch right by the lake here - 10 steps to paddling!
3.   "L'Aloua" at Sevrier (nice site - too long ago now to recall the detail of situation, but it wasn't at the water's edge)

So any more experience that anyone's got will be most welcome!
