Travelling to Orleans from Boulogne en-route to Languedoc and wondering if the Rouen-chartres route via e402/a28/n154 is a valid (and quick enough) alternative to going via Amiens-Paris.
We will be travelling at the start of August On Friday night so if going via Paris we would be there at approx midnight.
Any thoughts would be a great help.
Thanks

we regularly travel that route to our new place just outside Saumur. The roads are fairly quiet. The quickest we've done it from Calais - Saumur is 5 hours. I'd guess to Orleans will be another 30-45 mins on top? Don't forget that the French schools have now broken up for the summer hols, so you may find some holiday traffic around!
cheers, do you think the direct route via Paris would be quicker ?, we're travelling at night down to languedoc in 1 go with 2 drivers so really want the quickest route.
I'd recommend you go from Boulogne heading towards Troyes/Dijon/Lyon (A26/A31/A9). This route by-passes Paris, and is called l'Autoroute du Soleil (Road to the Sun). It's still a bloody long run to go for in one hit, to be fair. We stopped at Troyes after driving down from Northern England. Continued the next morning, bright & refreshed. I'd say to treat the journey as part of the holiday, see lots of France, take your time. Arrive safe!
I haven't done the Orleans route Guzz, but the Troyes one worked very well for us when last driven a coupla years ago. I think there's something to be said for the more 'direct' route south, rather than cutting across the country to the west, then going down...
cheers, yeah i have been on viamichelin and it appears the orleans route is slightly shorter in distance but more non-motorway (still only 100km or so). Both routes look similar from troyes or orleans, but maybe as I'm heading perpignan area then orleans route looks slightly better. It really comes down to the first leg boulogne - orleans or boulogne - troyes and whichever saves more time going around Paris ( or whether to head straight for paris whilst it will be about midnight ? Options, options...its all part of the fun !
We're going to do this route on our way to Loches. We're going to stop over somewhere around Rouen in a budget hotel, we'ver researched the different brands but now we need a good location, preferably not far from the motorway.....any ideas?

Many of these budget hotels are designed for motorway travelling, and so are often very cloe to the motorways.
Would recommend the B&B chain - good breakfasts and nice rooms.
