Can anyone explain to me what a polarity tester is in plain simple english? I am off to france soon and the site has 6amp electric i am in a tent and have a suncamp electric hook up and have bought a european two pin adaptor. My electric appliances i.e.kettle, light, hairdryer are all low voltage. I would be grateful for any advice i am very confused.

Thanks

A polatiry tester checks that the live and neutral wires are the right way round. If there not then all of your appliances wil be live all the time they are plugged in making it very dangerous, at least I think thats the reason. for the price of an adaptor it is better to be safe than sorry. I use one every time I go on a site. All you have to do is plug it in to a socket and if all three lights come on everything is o.k. If they don't it generally means that the live and neutral wires need swapping over.

I hope this is of some use.

 Les

My van has a built in polarity warning light. I've only seen it once when we were on a site and had to share the electric supply. The site owner provided us with a splitter and the warning light came on. When I pointed this out he seemed a bit confused. I get the impression he had someone make them up and they were not tested properly! Anyway he then produced another one which was fine. So it's best to be safe than sorry...
