I know what you mean about sites in Ireland. We visited last year and very little information was available before we went.
What I can say for definate is the standard of campsite in Ireland was far superior to thoses I visit in England. Everywhere had clean facilities, good organisation and a freezer available free to re-freeze your ice blocks.
We visited "White Bridge" at Kilarney, within walking distance of the town centre, great site. The National park should not be missed if you visit the area.
We also visited "Wave Crest" on the ring of Kerry. Spectecular views over the ocean and a very peicefull site.
The campsites in Ireland cater for many foriegn visitors, French, Dutch and German. I think this keeps the standards high and I would not worry about finding a suitable site.
Enjoy yourself!

Was in ireland in June. Stayed at Camac valley, a few miles outside Dublin but convenient for the ferries and the bus into Dublin.
Also stayed near Clifden, a nice town, had one of the best meals ever in Mitchells.
Stayed at Shanaheva, see link below. Was really nice, better than we thought from the approach.

Would reccommend a drive along the Sky road, nice views at the top (parking area) and also found a nice beach with parking.
Had a look at renvyle beach but thought connemara camp site up the road was nicer - stayed 2 nights and was virtually on the beach.

Had a quick look at westport on our way home, it looked really nice, saw a campsite sign in what looked like the grounds of a park but didn't check it out it could be this one
