My husband & I sail from Rosyth to Zeebrugge on Sunday with our car and caravan. We will drive to The Vendee and are booked to stay for 8 nights at Le Pin Parasol. Has anyone been there? We plan to take a leisurely journey and believe that there are some "roadside" caravan sites. Is there a web page listing for them? It is our intention to avoid Paris at all costs! Can anyone recommend a route with either one or two good overnight stops?.

Hi Brendaadie, we've just returned yesterday from roughly the same area and found a good way, we went down through the ring road at paris ( aaaargh ) but came back another way and had to stop over night, this is the route we took.......... ( reversed for u of course )

Zebrugge onto the  A17 then right onto the A27,  then onto the A1

Continue till jct 10. take the N31 towards Compiegne, You will be heading for a wee place called vic sur aisne, and the berny riviere ( la croix du vieux pont ) about 4- 4.5 hours drive and a nice break point.

Next day go and head for the N2 towards paris, continue down till you come to the A104 ( maybe signed for Brou or Torcy ) follow this till Lognes, then head for pontault combault, still the A104, it then changes to the N104, follow it, all the way to the A10 then head right , this road changes to the A11, follow this to Le Mans. find a site using the site search ( we drove onto Saumur, 7 hrs maybe too long for you ) .

next day, back on the A11 towards Angers and onwards from there, but after the ring road its really up to yourselves which way to go, try www.mappy.com or www.viamichelin.co.uk good routes there.

Check a map to make sure u r happy with the directions, alternatively you could go via Rouen then Amiens !

But good luck and enjoy the holiday

Bryan

we have a camper and take a more leisurely approach - ie avoid autoroutes unless we are really short of time.

If you take route above there is a good municipal site at Beaumont about 10 miles north of Le Mans

on the autoroute there is a nice aire at baie du  somme, altho all the usual warnings apply to overnighting on the autoroute.

our route from la rochelle to zeebrugge bypassed the Vendee coast on autoroute, into brittany and stayed at Le Croisic, not exactly on route but a nice spot, then up to Mont St Michel, Caen, Pont du Normande, [peage] Rouen and eventually to the Belgian border and Zeebrugge [by way of the Aire at Brugge]

good luck and enjoy the holiday, [and when you win the lottery - buy a motorhome, much more suitable for the non Autoroute Aires.

see http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules.php?name=Aires for more info

If you want to completely avoid Paris-& still have mainly motorway you will have to turn right from Zeeby & drive past Dunkerque-Calais Boulogne & down to Rouen-Le Mans etc-bit further but easier than goin round the N104 which aint that easy if you aint used to it--you are never far from a campsite in France-look on this website obviously you need a good map-get a yellow Michelin road atlas before you go--

Just returned from 2 weeks at Le Pin Parosol, lovely site, clean, friendly staff and largest pitches I have seen in France. Watch out for reverse polarity, the lead just plugs into box no need for french adaptor. The lake and surronding countryside is just stunning. Hope you have a safe trip and a nice time. Weather was hot hot hot last week with a bit of rain during the night.
