We've just come back from South of France too, near Perpignan and stayed at Camping Ma Prairie. Site was good, quite sheltered by tall trees around each pitch but we did have problems with hot water, basically every time I went for a shower there was none! I understand the owners had problems with the heating and got someone in to fix it but think I was just unlucky. I only had 1 hot shower the whole fortnight and had to struggle with cold ones rest of the time. Managed to shower kids ok but temperature kept changing so kids were in and out of shower and it took ages! Pool was lovely and bar/restaurant good but not much entertainment if that's what you like in the evening. That said we had a lovely fortnight, it was incredibly windy the time we were there and just calmed in time for us to leave!! Never mind at least we got some sunshine eh?

Dayne

Was the site you stayed at in the town? Closest one I could find was at Oloron Ste Marie, the Gite du Stade. Was that the one? We are going to the west coast area in Sept, and were wondering about a shopping trip to Spain! Can you get "Spanish priced "diesel there?

Camping La Creole in Marseillan Plage is a nice small site but unfortunately, even though the site itself is quiet, it is right in the centre of a bustling holiday town and therefore the noise from the many bars and restaurants can be heard far into the night.  If you don't mind this, the site itself is good and has direct access to a lovely sandy beach.

Our favourite Med site is called Au Paradis Des Campeurs.  You can find more about it here.

If you are interested in the area around Agde/Vias/Marseillan, we had a nosey around a number of other sites when we were in that area for future reference. The best in the area (which is not saying much) seemed to be La Creole if you wanted direct beach access and Californie Plage in Vias Plage if you want a livlier site. Generally, we have found that the standard of campsite is not as good in this area as in other areas of France, eg not such good toilet facilities etc but really, it depends on what you are looking for.

Neither of the sites I mentioned have any sort of organised entertainment which is why we like them, but most sites on the Med, especially the ones close to the beaches are the all-singing-all-dancing variety, which does not suit everyone.  However, with a teenager, maybe this is the sort of thing you are looking for.

The Alan Rogers Guide is pretty accurate about the sites we have seen in this area, I would invest in a copy to get some ideas.

Happy Camping

hi minicamper, the site was about 2kms from Urrugne and only 22 kms from satander in Spain. Near the campsite was the village of Col d'ibardin (3 kms up the hill) which is in  half in spain and france this was wonderful for shopping as everything is cheaper. U are really close to the Spanish border anyway so it's really easy to go into Spain we did it frequently. the campsite has its own website

 www.col-ibardin.com

cheers

Dayne
