Hello All,

Am new to this site, and am afraid I may be asking same/similar questions which may already have been asked - please bear with me!!

My partner and I get married next July and are planning a 2-3 week camping trip abroad for our honeymoon (obviously there's no better way to honeymoon!)

We live in Yorkshire.

We're thinking of hiring a nice car (we have two - one too small to camp with for 2 weeks and one too old to trust on such a long journey).  Should we hire this car here in Yorkshire or hire a vehicle when we've crossed on the ferry/tunnel?

We're thinking of camping in the South of France.  Where would you recommend?  We like small non-commercial sites, obviously with clean facilities.  We like being near the sea.

Looking forward to hearing your replies!

Many thanks in advance

Gert x

Hi - We just came back from Europe.  Took our own car so couldn't commment on car question but lovely campsite in Cannes called Parc Bellevue  think thats how you spell it.  The road in the campsite was a bit on the steep side to get down to the camping pitches but nice size.  Short walk into Cannes itself, local supermarkets, showers - lots but they are mixed cubicles, loads of toilets - just remember to take your own paper! Quiet at night and a lovely pool - bar area and restaurant.  We stayed for 3 nights but would happily have stayed longer.  We'd go back to this one. Have fun.

Fiona

Is this where you mean http://www.parcbellevue.com/ ? Gert do you want to use your own equipment or do you want to hire a chalet/mobile? If you e-mail me I can perhaps suggest a few campsites.

Hi,

Congratulations! What a great way to spend your honeymoon:-)

We were here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5427 in May and it's a lovely site. If you tell them it's your honeymoon (lune de miel) I'm sure they'll spoil you rotten.

All the best,

Liz

If your beautiful green tent is light enough to escape excess baggage charges, why not fly to the south of France by budget airline and then hire a care there, should save you plenty on autoroute tolls and petrol - unless you want to make meandering down through France part of the trip.

Camping le Haras at Palau del Vidre (south of Perpignan) is a lovely site - not too big, with excellent pitches, lots of flowers and scented shrubs, nice pool, restaurant, etc., and has a 'honeymoon' look about it, if you know what I mean.  You can visit the Pyrenees from there, and the beach and the little village of Colliure is a romantic place to wander, and eat.  Also, if you take the tip above (about flying) you can fly to Perpignan from Stansted (we did a couple of years ago for 1p each way, plus tax) and actually paddled in Colliure in November!!  If you drive then there's the excellent (almost toll free) autoroute, the A75 which goes through some beautiful honeymoonish sort of countryside, with lovely sites within easy distance and you can see the Viaduc du Millau (highest road bridge in the world which opened last year).  I'd do this end of the med in July rather than the Cote D'Azur end, as it is just slightly less frenetic.  Do you get married in early or late July (as late July is frantic as all of France is on holiday?  This may impact on whether you need to book first.
