Just picking up on a point made on some posts /

we stayed at Bon Annse Plage near Royan (Atlantic coast) got back last week from a very enjoyable 12 nights - WE NOTICED there were NO MIDGES NO MOZZIES only the ODD FLY very odd i thought - very good though,

BTW i dont reccomend 852 miles none stop From North Wales to Royan (except 35mins on tunnel) in 20 hours - just plain stupid particulary as the other half refused to help with the driving - 2 adults 2 teens & one 9 yr old woman 3 x bikes and my Pullman 535 all carried by Laguna sport tourer 1900dci  -  31mpg average - £72 toll charges (return included) and a sore AR*E - coming back i refused to do the journey in one & we stopped at Calais - looking back i would recommend 2 stopovers

So - calculated  - the trip cost £500 includes Diesel - Tunnel crossing & tolls

goint to the same area next year me thinks BUT can i do it cheaper by ferry & quicker ?????  poss Santander ???? wondering if anyone has done other routes??

Santander would probably be slower, more expensive and a huge amount more enjoyable. 18 hour sailing - we were quoted £1300.00 return to take a motorhome on it in July, instead of £99.00 return Dover to Calais

We stayed in St Emillion outside Bordeaux and were tortured with mozzies
