We came back last week and it seems a lifetime away. Tell me, are we the only ones where a small detour around Rouen has become traditional?  Anyway, what way did you go and how long did it take you to get to Costa Brava?

Hope the sad face goes away

JK

Hi Guzz,

What is the cost of petrol in France? Did you stay in camp sites and if so what did they cost and what did you get for your money?

Thanks,

Randy xx

We got back from France//costa brava at beginning of August. We live in Leicester and took the portsmouth Le Havre route over. Stopped in le havre port overnight then spent 3 easy driving days to get to CB. We booked sites in advance but I don't think it's necessary. In France we stayed at La Touche in the Loire Valley (Member of uK camp site) 15E Plenty of space, loos, showers, etc small shop on site. Then  municipal campsite in Montepezat de quercy. 12E (I think). If you ever go there you must investigate the 'old town'

At CB stayed in Moby Dick campsite at Calella de palafrugell. E23+ per day. This is not an all singing dancing campsite, no pool,  and non too good for caravans, v hilly, however very pretty and near to beaches.

On the route home we stayed at another municipal at Caussade about 6.80E.

Municipal sites suit us fine. Depends what your requirements are.

We did about 2,100 miles trailing a folding caravan. Petrol/diesel is much cheaper in France. Can't wait for next year!! I think we might be getting a small motorhome.

Enjoy

JK - we went rouen - chartres - evereux- orleans - clermont ferrarnd - millau , then down to vias plage near beziers. It took 11 hrs with just a coffee/fuel stop. We camped in vias but could only get 1 night on any site in the area so the next day went to playa d'aro on the costa brava, about another 3 hrs. playa d'aro v nice, no english people at all, mainly German / French / Spanish. Site was quite noisy at night due to the holiday time for spanish especially at weekend but this mainly confined to the tent areas.

Randy - petrol in france is as expensive as here if not more 1.34 E per litre at services, we made big mistake and filled up b4 spain where it is only 1.03 E. Sites were all about 30 E within a mile of the beach due to it being first week in August - avoid if possible, the traffic on the coast is horrendous and we were told we should be able to get a pitch without booking but there was no chance. We also found France v expensive compared to spain, almost double the cost for food / drinks.

If you are going to / from boulogne there are some decent bistros in the town square where we had an excellent dinner b4 returning.

Cheers

Guzz,

We had one site tell us that all sites would be full - only to find spaces at the one on the opposite side of the road.  It was 26E/ night - although it should have been more with electric but we couldn't get them to take the money (long story). Traffic was awful on the coast road and disappeared when we crossed to the east (drove straight across coast to coast in a day and saw about 5 cars).  That was 1st week in August too.  You did quite a trip in a day - beats the hell out of us.
