Can you help need advice-
We want to take our family to Spain in our touring caravan next year. Thought northern Spain would be best because it's less driving.
Can you give any advice on FERRIES? I know one go's from Plymouth to Santander, do you know of ay others? and can you recommend a CAMPSITE in Northern Spain quite near the sea? and suitable for a family?
All advice would be welcome.
Thankyou in advance

Hi Steve
Guess what - so did we?? - when did you go? We were there towards end July. Great site except for one family also from Scotland. They- wife, hubby and two outrageously behaved boys bothered us for 3 days. They even came to our tent one morning at 8.30am expecting a cooked breakfast - luckily my 6 year old son is a dab hand with eggs and bacon but we went thru 18 of them!! They also drank loads and were the loudest on the site one evening. I also witnessed them stealing sun beds which other campers had put towels on - they just moved the towels and pleaded dumb when the family came back - amazing no one was hurt. I had really begun to have enough and then to top it all they 'helped' my son eat his ice lollies - I mean from a child - !!!!!!! I'm sure we bumped into them last year in Orleans in France - their laughter and pranks kept us awake for many an evening and the snoring - well that's another story. They didn't even invite us into their caravan when the thunder and lightening had us running in our PJ's for the safety of the toilet block. Year before they happened to be at a site just outside Disney when their children scared the wits out of me by pretending to throw my children about the campsite!! - Their oldest son had a cheek to complain that my husband had smelly feet. I have to admit that his feet did smell and were so sweaty that people commented that someone had played a trick on him and put chocolate spread inside his trainers for a joke. The cheek of it to complain when we had taken him to Disney for the day. That same year they just happened to be in the same site as us in Holland. Well, that was another experience as they encouraged my kids to go down the most enormous chute ever.
The people you meet on holiday eh.
By the way Steve - how is is Kerry-Anne and the boys??

For anyone who is a bit confused by the last post - we are great friends of Steve and his family - just shows that you can make life long friends camping - we did meet for the first time in Holland and have met up every year since. Only 20 minutes from each other here.
Hope were still friends after that Steve!!

Plymouth-Santander with Brittany Ferries is another option, very expensive though. When I investigated it last year it was cheaper to fly there and rent a car and stay in Pension's>

We've just got back from our first touring holiday of Spian. We had three weeks so decided to do the cheapest ferry crossing -Dover - Calais and drive through France. We drove through the night and then spent one night south of Orleans, reached the campsites north of Barcelona the following day.
We didn't book any campsites and had great trouble finding one with pitches available , especially in Northern Spain by Bilbao. The northern coast was beautiful and we are going again next year to just stay in that area. We will probably drive through France again but will book the campsites this time - Tooo stressful the other way. We stayed one night at www.campingsopelana.com which was good but again only manage to get in.
Hope this helps
