My o.h wants to go to Spain with our f.c (haven't bought it yet, mind.)

I told him that on this site people were regularly commenting on reasonable costs for a van,f.c etc to France, Spain etc

He has just been on ferrybookers.com and they have quoted him £750 for Oct 2005, he says he couldn't get a quote for 2006.

Has anyone been to Bilbao this year, if so would they mind sharing with me the costs of the ferry, name of company etc

Surely we can get it cheaper than this? My o.h says no.

I think he is wrong.  There's a bet on this, so can someone help to prove me right!!

Not very constructive, but commiserations. Their prices are the reason we haven't yet been to the Pyrenees. They've got you by the S&Cs because when you're spending two or three nights on the heaving(!) briny you have to have a cabin and there aren't many local supermarkets. Because of the routes they operate I presume they'll be the last to bring their prices down to sensible levels. At the narrow crossing there's lots of competition.

We're hoping to go to the Pyrenees next year but will go Dover-Calais cheaply as usual then spend the balance on Formule 1 hotels and about 8000 miles worth of diesel!

We used Norfolk Ferries, Dover to Dunkerque, this year as they were the cheapest crossing we could find. (have always found 'Ferrysavers' giving the best prices). It takes an hour longer than Dover - Calais. Cost £88 for car + four people at peak times. We got to Dover early and were allowed on the 10am instead of 12:45 ferry. Excellent ferry service which seemed to have a  few less holiday makers and more lorries on board. Plenty of seats and hardly any queues for coffee. It took us less than an hour to drive past Calais and were in the Pyrannees within two days as we wanted to use non-toll roads and take plenty of stops to see more of France. Have just looked up October half term and was quoted £38. I will be booking with them again next year. With the amount we saved on the ferry and the lower cost of diesel it was well worth the extra driving.
