My beloved has just come back from a couple of weeks of freedom from me and the kids on his motorbike with a friend - he just loved Germany and has decided we are going there next year camping with the kids in the car ! Has anyone experience of touring round camping in Germany (he wants to head south) - are the sites good/expensive, would we need to book etc, also what areas would you recommend - bit if sightseeing, perhaps somewhere with the occasional lakeside beach to keep the children amused ? Thanks jackie

The Black Forest area is very nice, also the Rhine and Moselle valleys. There are lots of sites of greatly varying size and standard, many of them are mainly full of vans that are there all summer, complete with verandas, freezers, washing machines etc. Sites are reasonably priced. You need to search on the net and get a good campsite book, maybe contact tourist information offices for more details. We have only stopped a few nights on the way to/from Austria, we used the CC European sites book. We met some people who were heading for a site they had booked through the C&CC so they must have listings too.
camping is very popular in Germany, lots of sites, generally of very good standard - well all the ones we have used have been! It's a fabulous place to visit, not as popular with the brit brigade as France - but every bit as good I would say.

I often Camp in the south of Germany on the motor bike, I have found that sites are very reasonable, great standards and eating out is very good value, I usually stay near Kempten/ Ulm as a biker I like to be close to Austria. Best of luck I am sure that you will have a great holiday.

Went a couple of years back as heading down to Lake Garda. The German sites are very good, we used Valconsoleil for the booking of the sites (believe they are on the net), but overall I would definately go back. Most sites have a swimming pool or are next to one, and the places to visit are endless. If I were you I would head down south around Garmisch, beautiful area...very warm in summer ....and so many places to see...Simon
