Being, by nature, a last minute booker I have decided to go against the grain and get organised.  We've decided to camp in France (first time abroad with tent) and don't want to compromise on facilities for the littlies: swimming pool, close to a sandy beach, play area, quiet evenings! So questions:

1)  It seems easier to book through Eurocamp Independent - am I paying over the odds for crossing pitch etc?

2)  The La Yole site appears to have all we want - any comments? recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice

Hi,

We stayed at this site three years ago and thought it was great. Our children were 3 and 5 and La Yole suited us very well. The site was well maintained, the toilet and shower blocks and pool area were all kept very clean. There are alot of sites in the area, many of which are quite a lot busier than La Yole and have more going on for older children but we prefered a more peaceful site with less noise.

Hi

We camped in france for the first time this year and booked it all over the internet directly with the site and ferry company. We travelled with Speedferries for £50 return (they don't accept caravans or large trailers) but we (2 adults and 3 children) managed fine in an Espace with a bike rack on the back. We split our journey into 2 halves on the way to the Vendee at www.tuffiere.com near to Angers and on the way back we stayed in a hotel in Normandyand I would recommend doing this if you are landing at Dover/Bolougne.

We stayed in southern Vendee at www.lepong.com  and loved the area. There is so much for the kids to do and we packed in Quad biking, pony treking, trips to the zoo and aquarium and loads of great days out at the beach-wish I was back there now! With a bit of planning and a good check-list of things you'll need there's no reason why you can't do it all yourself-we enjoyed planning our route and searching for suitable hotels etc it was all part of the fun. Hope this hepls a bit.

Julie

Hi

We stayed there for 2 weeks in july our first time in the vendee

Site was brilliant, facilities very clean,no shoes or sandles at pool (rack outside)

Bar was expensive for drinks (soft drinks almost same price as beer)

Lots of large supermarkets nearby

Safari park near Nantes is well worth a visit puts our ones to shame

Beaches are lovely and very clean

We done eurotunnel, what crossing are u doing?

Anymore questions please advise

Just come back yesterday from La Yole campsite ideal for young kids. Take your bikes if you can lots of cycling paths in the area. Pitches are sandy so take a brush to sweep tent. Not a lot to do in the evening. Beaches are clean and very long.

Campsite set out in rows of enclosed pitches bit military- uniform for my liking.

Lots of pitches occupied by Eurocamp/Keycamp/Canvas Holidays

Pool clean and nice area to sit and watch kids have fun.

Nothing really for the young teenager

Park was good not for over twelves.

Baguettes gorgeous!!!!!!!

If your little ones are not in school, you could try and go outside the school hols. Ferries and sites are cheaper, sun less fierce, and you will have a much wider choice of pitches on a site. If you aim south of the Loire, you should get lovely weather on the west coast in June, say.

Friends went with Canvas Holidays.  their 'van was excellent.  It is cheaper to book direct through the site.  I didn't see the inside of the site owned vans but from the outside they looked fine.  Some had  verandas on the outside etc

Just booked for this year after reading the reviews on this site; I wanted a site suitable for my 5yr old daughter. First time in Vendee; I am unsure which is the fastest way to get their from Bologne?

Hi

We're planning to go to Cherbourg so can't help but there is a post on here about routes from Calais to Vendee and Calais is very close to Bolougne. However as a recall the gist was take the direct route and pay tolls as necessary because someone said they'd found a route that avoided tolls but cost them an extra tank of petrol and took longer.

Good Luck

Jen
