Trying to book a house for a week to the south of france for next year.The owners are french but live in USA.They want me to wire the deposit money to their french bank account, but having contacted Abbey, it will cost £25 to send £150.How can I go about this another way or with another bank?

Any ideas ?!!

Do the owners except credit card's or PayPal?

You could find a property owned by a UK based person & pay the deposit into their UK account - like we do.

You can send cash to them by post and get it insured for very little through the post office. Ask at your post office.
