Hya all

We are looking for advice on camping in The Vendee. Cheapest crossings etc.. We would probably like to sail to Sant Marlow .  Is this the best if you want the shortest drive.  Would like a smallish but not to quiet site with pool and kids facilities.  Any names or tips would be great.

Cheers

It took us 5 hours this year to drive to the South Vendee from Calais which I did not think was too bad at all.  You save a lot of money on the ferry going that route as opposed to St Malo.

we did Calais to Vendee but probably wouldnt again. probably better to go via St Malo or Caen.

cant comment on tolls as we used N roads but diesel about a quid a gallon cheaper than here.worked it out we saved maybe 100-150 by going to calais but alot of etra hassle driving nearly 500 miles each way.took us 12 hours minimum towing caravan.

We used toll roads for the whole journey.  I just checked my bank statement as we always pay with credit card and we payed just under £20 each way in tolls.  Petrol cost about 70p/litre if you buy it from supermarkets and not on the motorways.  We got our return crossing from Dover to Calais for £60.  The cheapest we could get on one of the closer routes was over £500 so we definitely saved a lot of money.

Blimey, 5 hours to get to the south Vendee from Calais!! You must let me know your route, because it took me 5 hours just to get to Le Havre from Calais.

Let me know the way as well because it took me just over 7 hours from st jean de monts to calais and that was using tolls and sitting at 70mph a lot of the way with the caravan on the back

We paid £180 return 10th july for 2 weeks with eurotunnel through the caravan club where caravan went free.

Fuel wise it cost about £160 for diesel towing with a 2.0 diesel vectra but not hanging about.

Tolls i think were about £35 each way

We have done both ways calais & st malo to vendee with a child.

going overnight to st malo meant the holiday started with the excitement of sleeping on a big ship, on the way back (day trip) he was entertained in the childrens clubs so we had a pretty good trip.

The drive from St Malo to Vendee is very easy so with excited children or child in the back the 3 to 4 hour drive is just right.

Have to remember you will probably need a night in St Malo because the return trip leaves in the morning.

Anyway, I would go with the extra expense of the St Malo trip, with children the whole family will arrive more refreshed (less stressed from a long drive)

Just my opinion, but others may think different
