Any suggestions of sites in the south and south west of France.  We are hoping to go there in the summer next year with our caravan and wonder if anyone has any tips or reccomendations.  We are taking our dog on the pet passport scheme and would be interested to hear from anyone who has already done this with their dog especially what you have to do before the return journey.

Happy caravanning Jamies Girl

Try

www.campingo.com or

www.campingfrance.com or

www.campings.hpaguide.com

They all have all have a huge selection of sites in SW France and links to the campsites own website, and can be viewed in English. Cant help with the dog as ours goes into his own Butlins for our 2 weeks in France. I did find some good sites by searching google as we did consider it but decided it would be too hot for him and a big chunk of the end of your holiday seems to be spent getting him cleared to come home. Sorry I dont have the website addresses for you but a Google search should do it.

Try Ma Prairie at Canet Plage near Perpignan.  We have been there twice and would really recommend this clean well organised site in an area where there is lots to see and do.  The beaches are absolutely fantastic.

Hi Jamies Girl

Firstly - Welcome to UKCS...

We cannot advise you on site's in the SW or the S.O.F as our campsite is in The Loire Valley.

Obviously you will need a stopover site on your way down and back.

You will also need to have your dog's PPS stamped within 48 hour's of your arrival back to the port, we have a vet in Liqueil who is qualified to stamp your PPS passport - I can check the price for you next week.

Any other question's - drop us an email.

You should be able to find several campsite reviews on the UKCS site for the south and sw France. When are you thinking of going? If outside the school holidays, look at the sites and ferry offers from www.campingcheques.com or www.campingcard.com

We have taken our dog away 3 times now, and have all enjoyed it!! Before returning home, treatment for ticks and worms has to be done by a qualified vet 24-48 hours before the crossing. So as La Touche advises, a site in the Loire is ideally placed to  use to get the dog treated and then make your way the next day across to the ports. I would advise making an appointment at the vets a few days in advance, we always phone.

Thank you all for your replies on French sites.  It will be our first time with the van and dog.  All  your comments are most welcome and very helpful..  Indeed I can see the advantage of La Touches lovely site and the help arranging a vet for the pampered one.

Thanks again Jamies Girl

We stayed at Les Peupliers in the village of Riviere sur Tarn just outside Millau, we had planned to stay 4 days but soon decided to stay for a week instead, at the end of the week there were still places we wanted to visit so eventually stayed there for 11 days. It's a very nice site, the owners are very friendly. The river Tarn runs through the site and of course the Gorges are absolutely magnificent. We will definitely go there again.

Phil.
