HELP PLEASE,

Got to collect wife from Barcelona at end of November so I am looking for places to stop on route.

I have the Caravan Club Sites Guide but most sites are closed at this time of year.

I have the Guide Officiel 2000 Des Etapes Touristiques Camping Cars, but it's impossible to find an aire when you don't know what Departement you're in.

I have downloaded an .axe file for use with MS Autoroute (I have GPS and Autoroute on board) but it's impossible to guess which sites might be open at this time of year.

Idealy I would love somebody to point me in the direction of a download of all year-round Sites and Aires if it had map refferences as well it would seem like Christmas.

Seriously any help would be much appreciated.

Dick

If all you want to do is stop enroute when you are tired-you have probabley heard its not advisable to overnight at motorway service areas due to crime risk--but French towns dont seem to mind motorhomes parking on carparks in their towncentres--so just turn off into a smallish town & find a carpark--as you drive in you may well se a sign--Aire de Campingcar--

Hi Dick, try the ACSI site, their guide lists 1000s of campsites and states opening and closing dates as well as a link to the site if they have their own website.

Thanks for all the replies,

The Eurocampings web site was interesting and I will take the Loire Valley address.

Thanks Billy, I suspect I just needed confirmation that this sort of behaviour is OK. Are all "in town" Aires open all year round?

One final plea, a nice ordered set of Autoroute worldwide campsite/aires pushpins with opening dates and map refferences would be a wonderful thing to have. Maybe I will just have to continue making my own.

Dick

Hi Dick,

we're also open all year, as shown in the new Caravan Club European Sites Guide. We're about a 5 hour drive from Calais, and around 3 and a half hours from Le Havre. Please feel free to drop us a line for more info. Or take a look at www.loire-gites.com

Hi Billy

No tolls at all! I've allowed 20 days for the return trip, in case I have trouble. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I've booked a cheap ferry with Norfolk Line on 17th November out at 23:59 to Dunkerque and back 5th December 10:30. (£63.00) This years multi-trip insurance is still current and I'll be able to have the CD player at whatever volume I damn well please.

I intend to drop in on some friends in Normandie for a couple of nights (I'm due to collect my wife at the ferry port in Barcelona on the 26th November) and then set off due South. The return trip will be basically in the direction of Dunkerque, unless the South of France is stunningly warm and we dally a bit. I love the Carmargue.

I can rough it on the way down and fully intend to, but my wife prefers the security of a camp site (though this may not always be possible).

Thanks for your tips, as you can probably tell I've not been out at this time of year since my Hippie days (over 35 years ago), so any advice is most welcome.

Dick
