I have never been abroad with the caravan although I have been Camping and Caravanning in the UK for 35 years.

So how would a newbie start. I have got my passports. I have 2 dogs but I know about Passports for them.

I was thinking of France for a start.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

This is my first posting so I hope its not old ground I am going over

Thanks Alan

Hi Esher,

welcome to UKCS! There are loads of threads concerning camping in France. It's a great country, which is why we moved here to run a small campsite! Why not click on www.loire-gites.com for a glimpse of what we and the Loire Valley have to offer?

The roads are hassle-free, the driving is easy, the chateaus are to die for...and we're open all year round, so you don't have to wait for the summer to come & visit us!

Your dogs will be welcome too. FREE of charge! There's miles of unspoilt walks around us for your pooches to enjoy. Just as long as they don't mind playing second fiddle to our puppy, Bracken! Hope this helps, if you need any more info, you can always e-mail, or call us in France.

Hope to see you soon!

Dont take your dogs on the ferry. Its kind of cruel. My Dad took his on the Irish Sea a few years ago and it took about a day to calm them back down afterwards. apparently its the vibrations that upset them. Id suggest using the Eurotunnel.

Hi Alan, welcome to UKCS

If you do a search under pet passports you should get the info you require for the dogs. A month after your dog has been vaccinated against rabies, the vet checks with a blood test that it has been effective, then issues the passport. It is six months from this blood test until your dogs can return into the UK from abroad without quarantine. They have to be treated for ticks and worms by a French vet 24-48 hours before you return. There is a place in the passport for them to record it's been done.

I agree with Granville, and use a short Dover Calais crossing, or Eurotunnel when travelling with our dog. With the ferries, the dog stays in the car alone, but on Eurotunnel, you all travel together with the vehicle.
