A very large busy site, it appeared to be full of teenagers. I would recommend le Bois Dormant opposite, not sure if they take tourers though. Also thats a long way to go for a week.

Hiya,
we went this July/august with two teenage boys (they chose the site) a7 yr old and a 4 yr old, we didn't take our own tent but stayed in a french life tent as the price seemed really good- just under £600 for a week including portsmouth to Cherbourg crossing(gone up this year so going it alone) anyway back to the site, I must admit we were rather worried having heard it was a tad "rowdy" but needn't have worried it was brilliant! The showers /toilets were immaculate & never busy, there was always a cleaner in there she would mop behind you as you came out of the shower (you get used to it!!). The main blocks shut at night & it was 3 nights before we realised the night facilities were hidden behind the block (thankfully we bought our own "facilities",the lady in the next tent held on from 11pm til 7 am!!)would have been nice if the rep had told us on day one. I did think some pitches seemed quite small so bear that in mind if you book.
the pools are lovely & well supervised ,the weather was excellent so we spent most of our time there. the entertainment was Haven style but bilingual, the younger kids loved Rory the tiger but we preferred to sit at our pitch with a glass of wine.
It is a very busy site & maybe we were lucky but we saw no bad behaviour atall -even my 2 teens behaved & loved it.The staff were all very friendly & everyone seemed to speak English but I felt it was only polite to try & order my pizza & moules from the very good takeaway in French even though his English was as good as mine.
Brilliant shop with fresh bakery. Sorry to waffle but I guess what I'm trying to say is we loved it, its not quiet & peaceful by any means but neither did it seem rowdy or overrun with kids (mind those on bikes though!) It was booked already for the dates we wanted next year as was La Garangeoire so we are going to Les Ecureuils.
Have fun wherever you go.
Lou

Hi again,

I thought the drive down was really easy but then I don't drive hubby did it all!! He was not keen when I booked & wouldn't (& still won't) entertain Dover to Calais, but he found it easy ,the roads were quiet compared to what we are used to here -A30 Cornwall  in the summer hols!We used a Tom Tom Go but also printed off maps from Michelin & they were fine. The site was well signposted & we had no trouble finding it. It took about 5 hours with a couple of short stops. If there is anything in particular you want to know about the site let me know & i'll try to help. We would definately go back but I don't think our tent would fit on all of the pitches don't think this would be a problem so long as they know when you book. All the facilities of the quieter site over the road are available to use & that was also very nice , when I phoned Haven said they were no longer taking tourers/tents over the road.

Can't wait for next summer Vendee here we come!!

Hi shreko,

I have stayed in le Bois Masson 3 times, mainly because kids love it (9,13 & 17) and picked it the 2nd and 3rd times.

Make sure that the pitch you get is big enough as there are some small pitches there.

Drive down is fine, its mostly motorway standard to Nantes and toll free, takes about 5 hours with stops.

Nice bakery, bar, takeaway and restaurent onsite too.

Never found site too noisy as site security people were excellent. Gates close to cars around 11pm, but Haven will leave keys out if you arrive later.

Bicycles are useful too, as the beach is about 2 km away, loads of other cycle paths there too. I must have cycled around 200 km this year.

Great Bars close by that show all Soccer matches too.

Joe

Hi shreko,

We have stayed st le Bois Masson 3 times and loved it, once you are not beside the bar, the campsite is great. Security is very good and they maintain control at night.

Facilities are good onsite too, with plenty of English spoken. If you need any moe info, let me know.

Joe

Lou,

Can you remember how many reps were on site for French life? A friend of mine is working for them at Bois Masson and is worried it's a single courier site.

Also was the kids club French Life run or through the campsite?

Thanks in advance
Sean

Hi Sean,
I think there were at least 3 FrenchLife couriers all young ,they seemed a friendly bunch. There were several differant kids clubs on site run by the differant companies including FrenchLife but the main Haven one seemed most popular,we didn't try them out as our kids just wanted to do the beach/pool all the time as the weather was fab. Igot the impression that the Frenchlife couriers took turns to do the kids club so i hope yor friend likes kids!!

Its good to hear there were a few couriers, she'll be relieved about that.

Thanks
