We're considering a 3 to 4 weeks trip to Ireland with our motorhome (under 6 metres)in May 06.  Provisional route will be Stranraer > Belfast, returning Rosslare > Fishguard. I've just been on Stena's website and got a quote for 'any duration' of £238 booking on-line. I did consider making two single journey bookings as they appear to be cheaper??? Has anyone done a similar journey and how does the price look? Are there any other ferry companies to consider? I know this could mean different departure & return locations. We intend travelling anti-clockwise, and would appreciate any other points to consider, advice, places to visit, sites, etc. Hopefully our members in Ireland will be able to help me out on this.

HI

Tried to get Irish ferries site up but the quote pages wont show. Have travelled from Rosslare to Pembroke and Fishgaurd a few times and found their prices ok. You would prob be best booking single journeys.

As for places to go and see!!!!!!!!! If you are planning on spending so long in the country, you will be hard put to keep moving! You will come across a piece of heaven and wont want to leave!  Following the coast would be the best bet........but there are so many beautiful places to visit and stay I would find it hard to pick just a few! The coast line along sligo and Galway is fantastic and there are plenty of historical places to stop off.........http://tourismirelandtaxichallenge.com/  http://visitireland.com/aboutireland/western.asp just a couple of links to try.....I would try not to be biased!!! but my fav part of Ireland are the Counties Donegal, Sligo and Galway....so much history and such fantastic landscapes.......just get to as many websites as poss and make a list! Just dont expect to see everything on your list.......that takes much more than 1 visit!

Hope I have been of some help.........please get in touch if you need any help..........

In July we travelled Holyhead - Dublin with Irish Ferries, returning a week later, for £173 return for a 20 foot motorhome.

We booked it on March 17th when they had  St Patrick's Day half price sale.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

Hi Aud and Caz

Thanks for your info, every little bit helps. I would have replied sooner but was enjoying the http://tourismirelandtaxichallenge.com/ website when my broadband went u/s and I had to uninstall/re-install again. (That was after I spent half an hour on the phone with the Help team who couldn't solve the problem)

I've tried the Irish ferries and P&O sites but was unable to get a quotation after 11th January. They musn't be set up for next summer yet. Caz, you've certainly got me thinking about St Patrick's Day so I hope they repeat the offer. As for the websites you posted Aud I'll have plenty to 'go at' during the dark nights.

Many thanks

Don

We went to Ireland last year and booked the ferry using airmiles, gave us quite a discount if you've got then lying around. We only went for a week and did Dublin, stayed at Camac valley, and got the bus in. Then went across to Galway, stayed near Clifden, at Connemara camp site and Shanaheva camp site. Would recommend both. Westport looked nice as well but we only passed thriugh on our way back.
