I am looking at ferry prices and to get a quote I need to state the height of car plus roofbox. Thing is we haven't bought the roofbox yet so I don't know how much extra height they add? Any ideas?

We have a Ford Galaxy and will be getting a standard type 380L ish box. Car doesn't have roofrails so we have bought Thule bars.

Finally we are doing Dover/Calais, is Seafrance or P&O best? Prices seem same-ish.

TIA

Amanda x

If you added a couple of feet you won't be far off. See if it makes a difference to the price though. When we went Seafrance to Caen we were charged overheight supplement for the car and another one for the caravan and we have since found out that we should have only paid for one of those supplements. They are only asking to make sure you aren't so high that you need to go on a deck with the lorries. No one at Dover has ever measured our height or length.

Not a huge amount of difference between Seafrance and P&O. You're only on there for a short time anyway. Norfolk Line are the cheapest crossing at the moment Dover to Dunkerque

Thanks. I went back to the seafrance website and filled out a quotation thingummy and gradually increased the height of the car from 1.83m and the price didn't change until I got to 3.4 metres LOL, so we've "guesstimated"  at 2.5 metres. P&O were a bit more pernickety (and £30 more expensive) so we've gone for seafrance. We've got the return for £85 in August, which I'm happy with.

Looks like we are going to get 2 weeks in Sunny (I hope) Southern France for the same price as last years wet and miserable one week in a static caravan in Hunstanton....this camping malarkey isn't half bad!!

I would have thought it would have been less than Hunstanton.

How many/old are the kids?

If you are not taking bikes you can use a bike rack to mount the roofbox on the back of the car then no worries over height restrictions! then you can push it onto the roof bars to keep rear vision clear once off the ferry

Or if you have loadsmoney try this
