Does anybody know any good camp sites as we are considering Austria or Germany this year. We have been to France several times and had very enjoyable holidays.  With two teenagers who like fishing water sports and plenty of sun. The brochures look very nice, but having never been, not sure of the weather or the camp site choices, Even though we have teenagers, we still like a quiet site after 11 o`clock. Any information would be appreciated .Many thanks Michelle

Probably depends when you want to go, we don't normally stay on large sites but found a site Bad Durkheim a couple of years ago, part of the Knaus chain, found it very good, http://www.knauscamp.de/  There are some great spots along the Rhine and Neckar, particularly liked Neckergemunde. May not be enough for the kids tho - http://www.camping-am-neckar.de/

have fun

Germany is a very under rated country for holidays although I expect it will be a bit more popular this year!!!! Weather can be variable. We were in the Rhine Valley in late August and for one night it was exceptionally cold but by and large it is generally warmer that here. Germany campsites are well ordered and rules followed! This should not put you off as it would fit in with your spec of no noise after 11.00pm As far as campsites are concerned there are some really excellent ones, there are a few details on my website. Have you any thoughts were you might like to go? Please feel free to e-mail me.

Azur Camping run several campsites in Germany and a couple in Italy. The ones I have stayed at are good quality, clean and not too expensive. I dont think their website has an English version but you will find links to their campsites and descriptions in German. Google will translate web pages into almost understandable English, but it's not too difficult to get the gist of the German.

I can recommend Camping Natter Zee in Austria. It's just outside Innsbruck and is a nice, terraced site by the lake. Also has an excellent restaurant.

The only site i've visited in Germany is at Kirkzarten near Freiburg. I found it quite cramped with small pitches huddled together. Therewas only 6" between us and our neighbours!. Having said that, it's a great area to explore.

I have also been to Nattr Zee just south of Innsbruck, and would agree with the earlier post, great lake for swimmimg, and the restaurant is very good (and reasonably priced)

This year we are heading over towards Salzburg area, to a site also on a lake at Zel Am Zee.

There is a good website for the top sites in Austria try this:

We stayed at: http://www.wirthshof.de

It was one of the few web sites in English!!!

Near to Lake constance with loads of boat trips. Markdorf nearby has a nice water park. Only down side was no toddler pool. Main pool is stainless steel lined which is very slick. Nice big feild for ball games. Good restaurant and take away.

Toilet facilities excellent. Seperate toddler wash block with basins and showers.urinals with infra red sensor to flush automaticallly which my boys thought was dead cool!! Really enjoyed our stay here weather was very hot although I beleive this isn't necesssarily the norm. Lake constance also borders switzerland and Austria? geography not my strong point. so plenty to see. Zepplin musuem was interesting.Would definetly go back.

Austria and Germany are both great.  We prefer Austria.  Tirol, SalzburgerLand, Carinthia,  all have super camp sites.

we enjoyed this one the last time we went with our caravan

http://www.camping-itter.at/en/

the pitches are big, fully serviced (water & waste water), and cost less than a caravan club site charges members in high season.

lovely scenery, walking, etc.  Handy for Kitzbhuel, Salzburg, and Innsbruck.

Munich and Italy are both about 1.5 hrs drive away for a visit.

enjoy what ever you decide

That looks really nice Michael, I have put it in my favourites for future reference. We have been to Germany and Austria a few times and really like it there.

Well, it's funny to read about your liking Germany and so on. I live here (the town twooks wrote about, Neckargemünd, is where I work)

But I can't appreciate it anymore, having spent my whole life here.

Should one of you plan your holiday in the area, send us a mail before that and you'll get our phonenumber. If you fancy a propper German meal or need help, just give us a ring, we always love to have visitors from the UK!
