Having been slightly put of by Brittany weather last year - we are considering the Loire next year - 2 children (7&5) - dont want massive all singing all dancing site (we can wait a few years before that! Have been recommended camping de L'Etang? Would really appreciate any comments from anyone who has visited the area (End of July) or stayed at this site or can recommend others?

Thanks

There is a UK Campsite member who owns what looks like a lovely site in the Loire that is just what you are looking for. Trouble is I cant remember the name of it so maybe someone will come along and jog my memory. Not much help but at least it has taken away the sad face.

Aw thanks Billie!

Hi Nicky, we can recommend L'Etang de la Breche near Saumur, it's one of our favorite sites. We also run a small campsite here too, as Billie says. We have gites as well, if you have non-camping friends or relatives that like to holiday with you? Lots of folk did that last year. Check out our reviews HERE, and access our website from there.

There's also what looks like a very nice place down on the Charente, a bit further from us, run by Sandra & Garry, again an English family, called 'Twinlakes'. Hope this helps.

l'etang de la breche is a massive campsite, not exactly all singing/dancing, but maybe hard work with a 7 & 5 year old.
and, it is the most expensive site we've ever been to. we enjoyed it, but, don't think we would go again.

twinlakes does look lovely, never been, but it is on my list.............

ME AND MY FAMILY WERE AT CAMPING DE L'ETANG IN AUGUST 05 IT IS IN MY OPINION THE WORST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD IN ALL OUR YEARS OF CAMPING IN FRANCE. THE MANAGER OF THE SITE IS A DUTCHMAN CALLED MARK, HE IS VERY ANTI ENGLISH, HE WAS RUDE TO ALL THE ENGLISH PEOPLE ON THE SITE .HE SHOUTED AT ONE WOMANS CHILDREN TO BE QUIET & TO STOP PLAYING OUTSIDE THE BAR, HE CAME AROUND TO OUR PITCH AT 9PM  AND ORDERED US TO STOP TALKING AS OTHER CAMPERS MIGHT BE SLEEPING, IF WE DID NOT GO INTO OUR CARAVAN HE WOULD CALL SECURITY, IT IS LIKE A PRISON CAMP THE MAN IS A COMPLETE NAZI, WE BOOKED 9 NIGHTS BUT ONLY STAYED FOR 2,THE MAN IS QUITE TALL & A BULLY, ALL THE STAFF ARE FRIGHTENED OF HIM AS THEY TOLD ME SO. ON OUR SECOND NIGHT HE ACCUSED US OF MAKING TOO MUCH NOISE, AS IT WAS NOT US I LOST MY TEMPER, AND AS  WITH MOST BULLYS WHEN CONFRONTED HE RAN, I HOPE IF YOU HAVE BEEN ALREADY YOU DID NOT CHOOSE THIS SITE. THEY RUINED OUR WHOLE HOLIDAY & I WAS SO STRESSED I GOT SHINGLES

Thanks for your information Mickyash .. you sounded to have a horrid time. We've actually decided to go further south - maybe Dordogne - hope you've not had bad times here aswell!

we have been all over france and spain and have no complaints about any other campsite. it might be worth getting a haven europe brochure they have campsites all over europe , and are very good with children, they are off your hand's most of the day, dordogne is very nice but we prefer the south there is more sunshine and you are on the med, we was on a campsite in a static caravan near montpelier called le lac des reves, we have been there 3 time,s it is brilliant. it is 1 1/2 hour drive into spain from there you could do what we have done in past one week in france & one week in spain, hope you have a great holiday nicky,

We loved the Loire so much after a  camping holiday last year we moved tothe area last september and do not regret it for a minute. There are some great things to do with young kids, our our 11,9 and 6.Lots of the lakes have man made beaches, with good restaurants, and play areas for the little ones, there are also a couple of very good zoos. Some large supermarkets are open on sunday morning (eg super u,and atac),i have used a (uk) visa electron card to get petrol,so you could give it a go.Hope you have a great holiday.
