We want to take our caravan on holiday to the above two regions in July/August.
Can anyone recommend a good site near the beach, good slides? I have had good reviews and bad about Les Menhirs in Carnac and Les Gentes in the Vendee. Our kids are 7 and 9 years old.
Also how easy is it to get on and off the ferries?

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to recommend a site or two, but as regards driving onto the ferry, it's childs-play just drive up the ramp there will be ferry staff there to direct you, easy-peasy, if you are going for the longer crossing, don't forget to unplug your grey lead that go's from caravan to car, otherwise you will drain your car battery, apply both handbreaks (car and van) and go and have a few pints, Enjoy
We have been to this one Ragunez Plage there is a path down to the beach, the people who run it are really nice and speak good English, see our website for a review of the site.
Regarding ferries I suggest either Britanny Ferries Plymouth - Roscoff or Portsmouth - St, Malo. It saves you a long drive and as Stu says you'll have no problem boarding the ferry.
We so nearly booked Ragunez Plage (Brittany) last year and at the last minute changed and booked Keranterec / La Fousenant area. Went to look at Ragunez as the reviews we had read were really good. It is just behind a huge corn field before a cliff down to a lovely beach but the site its self was sooooo busy (1st wk of August) and we were put off by the lack of privacy - tent ropes in some areas literally went well onto the adjacent pitch. Having said that everything else we had read about the site read true.
We'd really recommend Keranterac - large private pitches for tent/caravan but each pitch has three sides of hedges so you really do have privacy and your own area. Few Brits tho! mainly French so all entertainment was geared to the French which was OK for us but if you had teenagers might be quite limited in the evening. Lovely area of France but the beaches did get very busy from mid day onwards.Take a look at thier web site www.camping-keranterec.com
Ferries are easy but it is one very long drive form Calais! We were tempted by the cheap fare but will think twice before doing the same again!
Have fun where ever you go.

Les Menhirs is in Carnac - loads to do. However, the campsite was noisy at nights - and every night we got the mini tractor emptying the bottle banks. Loads of scummy ned teenagers around too. Also, our neighbour [ from the UK ] had two boys, and one got propositioned to [ he was 17 ] by the French female lifeguard. She was acting the whore around the pool too which I didnt like.
Would stay away from Carnac, and in my view Brittany is similar to the UK coastline, only the UK is better.
We are returning to Fierbois in Loire this year. Gonna be the mother of all holidays
Would maybe remember the name of the person if I heard it - but she was the short bobbed blonde haired woman with glasses that spent her time eyeing up the young boys - u been there?
