Has anyone been to Canet Plage and can recommend any sites (or near there), I have found Le Brasilia but works out at over £ 40 per night (ouch!) and Mar Estang charges £8 per night for each child!

Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Hello Winhill. We stayed in that area years ago (1984, first time abroad) and found it very expensive(3 kids). We upped sticks and went on into Spain(50miles). Loads cheaper. Been every year since (no kids now). The good sites around the Bay of Rosas charge €3.20/night(approx £2.50) for kids at peak weeks.(Just checked on-line for 2006).The cost for a family of five is £21/night plus electric(say £25 tops).
Having said that, some sites in Spain will charge £40/night for a family during peak weeks, but these will have everything(ie entertainment, disco and maybe on beach).
Yes I looked at Maprairie does look good and my son would like the climbing wall but it is 3Km from the beach which could be a hassle - not that I'm keen on the beach but if you have to drive it takes and hour to get three kids in the car.
I have looked now at Les Dunes at Torreilles just up the coast and that looks good - a bit big but it seems to have en-suite shower and toilet with each pitch!?!? my french isn't brilliant but I'm sure that's what it says. I going to start a new thread in case someone has been there.

We called in at Ma Prarie last year for 3 nights. It is a lovely site but very little for teenagers to do.It is very easy to park near the beach, as you just keep following the main road out of Canet until you find room. The site is very quiet and very near a Lidel( i think that is spelt correctly) supermarket. It is an excellent base, however in August it is very, very busy and therefore difficult to see much of the area. You need to travel on small back roads. The pool area is lovely and my two enjoyed the tennis court.
Canet Village has a lovely site (if it's still there) as long as you do not mind driving to the beach each day.
I spent two summers working in Canet Plage in my younger days a lovely area, keep to the left hand side rather than the right, as there is a massive English only site on the far right, It used to house the bussiest bar in France.
But the left hand side near the marina is where you will find the French much nicer.
Ma Prarie great place to stay, staff very helpfull , plenty of places to visit, not far for a day out in Andorra, and not far from the spanish border . Have stayed around this area a couple of times ,and will be going back again. mariegwyn
