has anyone been to this site in Grand Dune du Pyla in south west France?

We have booked 2 camping pitches and a mobile home for 14 nights from 19 August this year.

What is the site like?
Is it noisy?
Is the beach as good as it looks?
Would you use the site again?

Many thanks for any replies

Jackie H

Hi Jackie

We went to Camping Panorama last June, which is pretty much next door to Pyla Camping. Cant comment on the site itself, but the area I can. The beach .. no it isn't as good as it looks on the web/brochure .. it's better! It is simply stunning with views over the basin D'Arcachon. The sunsets especially are something to look forward to! It is rather a climb back up from the beach, but it works up the appetite for a nice cold glass of beer when you reach camp!

The sites are on a main road down the coast, and are quite far out of town. Not really in walking distance. The national cycle route runs right outside though if you fancy taking your bike!

Hope you have a good time!

Thanks for reply

What is in surrounding area?  What is the closest town and how far is it?

Our brochure says there is a market twice a week - did you see one?  What did it sell?

Do I need to take anything special in the footwear line - like wellies to keep my feet clean (only joking).

Many thanks

Jackie H

Hiya

The closest town is Arcachon, the outskirts of which are about a mile away, there you'll find the shops and restaurants etc. We didnt see a market in Arcachon (as we didnt really go there much) , but at Biscarosse (just down the coast) has a lovely fresh fish and veg market. Biscarosse has a fantastic beach if you get fed up of trekking back up the dune. Popular with watersports esp surfers. Also popular with paragliders, which you'll see drifting up and down the dune in the thermals.

Bordeaux and Cognac well worth a visit.

Hope this helps
