We are thinking of going to Les Brunelles this year.
Has anyone been to or got any information about this site, from the information in Camping Cheques booking is recommended even in the low season. But I would appreciate any information about this site.

I have come up with very contrasting views on this site. I have never been there myself, but am somewhat puzzled by the range of opinions I have found about it from others.
Alan Roger's (usually a reliable source) describes it as having some of the best toilet blocks in the area and says that it is well managed (although, reading between the lines, it does sound a little regimented). The Caravan Club Europe Guide just lists the facilities, offering no opinions from users.
By contrast, the Camping Cheque forum on its French website has one very negative posting. Freely translated, it says'lack of water in the wash-blocks, toilets blocked, wait for water in the showers, edges of the swimming pool broken, floor tiles broken and slippery, no entrance barriers or controls, no lighting at night. To be avoided at all cost, shouldn't be in the catalogue'. This, I should stress, is only one view, but no one has contradicted it, and the overall score for this site in the Camping Cheque satisfaction survey is only 3 out of a possible five, not a ringing endorsement.
I think if I were planning on going there, I might prefer to book in initially for just a few days and be prepared to move elsewhere if it did not meet my requirements.. There are other sites in the area accepting Camping Cheques, so it would not be a disaster if an alternative had to be found.

I have used camping cheques for the last 3 years if we didn't like the site we moved on, that is what I like about them. ithink it is like everything else you try to find out about sites you intend to visit and have to realise that evrybody has their own opinion. But what the like is not neccessarily what I like.
I have just copied this from the alan rogers website.
This is a well managed site with good facilities and a varied programme of high season entertainment for all the family. The owner, M. Guinard is justifiably proud of his campsite. The leaflet given to all visitors on arrival (together with a bottle of wine) explains in detail the workings of the campsite and the standards of behaviour expected. In mid July the site was very busy but there was an atmosphere of well ordered calm. M. Guinard believes that if the children are happy and occupied then the parents are also happy. This approach certainly seems to work. This has to be one of the cleanest and neatest sites on the Vendée. The 60 touring pitches are all level on sandy grass and separated by hedges, away from most of the mobile homes on site. There is a mixture of sunny and shaded pitches and all have easy access to electricity (6A). Water points are not so frequent. A good supervised sandy beach is just 900 m. away. The village of St Vincent sur Jard (2 km.) has shops, bars and restaurants and the pleasant seaside town of Jard sur Mer with its market is just 4 km.
thank you for the information

I've stayed at 2 sites recommended by the Alan Rogers guide, the first was fantastic and everything we hoped for (4 Vents nr Disney, actually I think we found this in the carefree brochure C&CC) the second, which was made out to be a 'gem' was called Val de Seine and was truely the most awful campsite, the camping field was closed as the had summer camp kids (at least 100 of them) so we had to go in the caravan bit, which wasn't very big, we were pitched between 3 tents that had people who lived there all summer, another pitch had a very loud local family on...the recepotion warned us about them as a number of families had left due to the aggravation from this family. The ground was rock hard as it was meant for caravans. We got a free pass to the local beach/recreation centre next door, when we went there was a group of teenagers being arrested by the police, drunks on the picnic tables and the shop was closed as it had it's windows put through...not quite the 'gem' we were hoping for, we stayed 2 nights then decided to cut our losses and get an early ferry home........So please, don#t believe everything you read in the guide books!!! This year we'll be going on personal recommendation. We tried to complain to Alan Rogers but there is option to email regarding a site in theier listings and to warn others.
Hope you have better look than us!

We stayed at Les Brunelles 2 summers ago- it was great. The beach a short drive away( Plage du Rocher) is great- there is a lifeguard station and lookout, huge car park, cafe and tables , toilet. Great waves, sand, great fun. There is a height restriction at entrance of carpark so you will have to park on the verge if you have a people carrier and roof box!
Les Brunelles has a perspex/glass covered swiming pool which means you can swim everyday regardless of weather. The mobile homes are nearer the swimming pool and snack bar. They have a little veranda. The tent pitches are on the other side. ( we used our bikes around the site to visit friends we made in the mobile home area) Our other friends we made had a pitch nearer reception and got flooded!! We were on higher ground near a toilet block and were OK. So ask to be moved if you can if put on very low ground.
The loos were unisex but regurlarly cleaned. As a rule the men tended to use the far one so were not overlooked( they didnt tend to shut the cabin door!)
For the whole 2 weeks we were there we were one of only 5 British families- so it really felt we were abroad!
It has is own website so you can see some pictures of the site.
We enjoyed our stay there anyway. Don't forget to visit Jard sur Mer - and Tranche sur mer

Also some of the pitches are on a slope .......so if you worry about reversing off the road through a gap in the hedge ....up onto the pitch and then swinging the van round to unhook it.....ask for a flat pitch ......it is a quiet site and we liked it ....Jard has had the area round the harbour smartened up.....there is a nice little cafe overlooking the boats & and a big new tarmac car park .....free
I must admit it depends on the amount of room you have for the manouver. Last year I didn't have to reverse onto the pitch but it was still a very tight turn. I think it will be a case of getting a flat pitch.

Hi Debb
The furthest we have been down on this side of France was last year to Bois Soleil which is 5km from Royan. The site was very good and when you walked off the site you went straight onto the beach.
Unfortunately we have (as yet) not vehtured any further south on this coast. We did go down to a site near Perpignan but that is right down on the South Coast.

We went last June.
before I start the weather didn't help!
You can only go in the pool with what I call speedo trunks of which my husband and two young children didn't have any!
The pitches are small and not very well kept
It's in the middle of no where miles of any main road
Nothing to do if the weather is bad although the pool is fab if the weather is hot
Left early and wouldn't go back
Looks fab in camping cheques book and that's why we went. we didn't see any other english
But each to there own
