Well we didn't and there were plenty of pitches available. Much of the site is taken up by some very old vans on seasonal pitches, and many of these had 'sheds' instead of awnings - you'll see what I mean. In fact we didn't book in advance on any of our sites and didn't have a problem, they all seem to have plenty of space at this time of year, although obviously they get busier over the weekends and bank holidays.

Thanks! We're taking our chance with all sites - armed with camping cheques and the Alan Rogers book. Never before have I gone away without having booked everything to the nth degree, but we realised last year that holidaying this time of year did give us a huge amount of freedom!
I did find Les pommiers on Mappy, so it looks easy to find.
Nick - if you see this message, can you confirm that the roundabout that we turn off to Les pommiers is the one with the big supermarket by it (Champion?)
No it's before that, I think it's probably the first roundabout you hit after leaving the port area. Follow the signs for Caen as you come off the ferry and it is probably only a mile, if that. I just found this map here http://www.ville-ouistreham.fr/images/planville.petit.jpg
it is the first rounabout, you can see it on the map, bottom right corner alongside the canal.
They have a barrier, just drive up to it and it should open , you can then park your outfit in the parking area to the left hand side whilst you book in.
Have a good holiday.

nickcan u tell me you know the petrol station by the champion supermarket does it take credit cards or cash? also from there can you go straight on the bypass motorway heading biaritts area?
The petrol station by the Champion takes cash, it also eats the cash if the tanks are low - it then regurgitates the cash 6 months later in the UK..... We wanted to use it on a Sunday and this was the only method of getting fuel. The shop in the site doesn't have anything to do with the petrol station. sorry just realised I haven't explained that you feed the notes into the petrol pump....
We never used the station so wouldn't know. It's on the main road to Caen which basically you will need to follow if you're going anywhere down south.
From memory there are a few stations on the road to Caen. I presume you are arriving late and intending to travel through the night. If so I would fill up before you catch the ferry, just to be sure. As you probably know the 24 hour credit/debit card station don't accept UK cards so unless you can find one that takes 'cash', or a manned station, you're stuffed. Better to be safe than sorry and buy your fuel in the UK, there's not a huge diff in price between a Uk 'supermarket' petrol station and the French service type station anyway.

Just got back from my annual hols and stayed on the les Pommiers site both out and overnight coming back. It is a municipal and a bit basic, but you get directed to an area "reserved for Brittany ferries". Plenty of room when I was there and some people were leaving the car hitched and just dropping the back legs. The petrol station just down the road by the Champion supermarket takes english credit cards and I used this one both ways to top up the tank.
A couple of years ago I stayed at Les Hautes Coutures site and was not very impressed. I think the charge was about 30 euros for the night. against the 14 euro at Les Pommiers
