We are thinking of going to Chateau de lez Eaux , South Normandy the last weekend in May.

Just wandered if anyone has any feedback on this camp-site. It is in the Eurocamp brochure but they don't go into great detail.

Thanx.

A little bit more info here http://www.les-castels.com/index.php?rub=fichetechnique&AccesDirect=ok&vgcasid=107 We stayed there in 1987 on our first trip to France. Don't really remember it is detail but seem to remember the kids enjoying the swimming pool!

Perhaps the question is why not go for Camping Cheques!!! If you check out the campsite prices on the web and they come to more than Ģ10.50 you are going to save money. They are valid for two years.  We have used them for a couple of years now and find them very good value.

Thanx David. We are a party of 4 though. Do you still think it would be worth it?

My understanding is that you would just pay the extra per person charge but you would do that anyway. A lot of campsites base their fees of a pitch and two persons and under this situation Camping Cheques usually offer a worth while saving. You would need to do the research of total pricing to establish it was worth while although I expect there would still be a saving.

I think you can get discount cards for Castells sites - ?? - may be better than CCheques if you only planning on staying at Les Eaux.  we stayed there overnight out of season a few years ago, seemed like a nice spot.

We were there Jul/Aug 2005. It is a superb site - the facilities were spotless! We were with Eurocamp, so had the advantage of the kids clubs, which were a lifesaver, since it rained almost every day for the 2 weeks we were there! I'm told that "Cornish weather" in that part of Normandy is to be expected. There is a take-away, bar and shop on site. The shop has fresh croissants and bread every morning. There is also a fishing lake for you to try your luck at - free of charge. An outdoor (heated) pool and indoor pool with waterslides, keep the kids (and many adults) amused for hours. There is a kids play area with swings, slides, climbing frames etc. The surface is covered with loose pebbles which I thought was a bit un-child-friendly, but then health & safety never seems to be an issue in EU countries other than the UK! A large grassy area is available for games such as football and rounders, or simply for kite flying.

Granville is the nearest "big" town - it is apparently the "Monaco of the North" - loads of little shops and boutiques. There is a big Leclerc hypermarket on the outskirts(with MacDonalds next door) and also an Intermarche supermarket about 2 miles from Chateau-Lez-Eaux on the main road to Granville. St Pair-sur-Mer is the seaside village, but apart from the obligatory seaside carousel and ice-cream stalls there wasn't much else there.

Mont-St-Michel is about 1 hr away, and is certainly worth the visit. The D-Day beaches are also within striking distance (Gold Beach at Port-en-Bessin), as is Bayeaux. You can also get to St Malo fairly easily, but we didn't venture that far. For the kids, the zoo at Champrepus is a must! Cherbourg is just over an hour away - the "Cite-de-la-mer" (aquarium) and nuclear submarine are very interesting. The hilltop town of Coutances is also very picturesque - we found lovely crepes there.

Carolles plage (beach) was the nicest (in our opinion). At low tide the sea goes back for miles. There are areas for swimming, surfing, sailboarding, sailing etc. Lovely sand, warm-ish water, and it never gets too crowded.
