Hi

has anyone been to this campsite recently.  I am looking for somewhere to go in early June.  Our 3 kids are 10-15 and keen watersports fans so it looked a good possibility however I saw a post from 2 years ago warning people off it.  Any info appreciated!

Eric

We were very disappointed in this site, mostly because we were given a really rubbish pitch for our overnight stay. But that was three years ago, so it may have improved. We would not go back there, but other people seem to have enjoyed their stays, so I am quite prepared to accept that we were just unlucky!

We stayed here last year for an overnighter. I know what Chrissie means about the allocation of pitches. We asked to move as the one allocated was very muddy. They seemed quite happy to meet my request but continued to send people to the one we had rejected! Having said that it is a rather nice campsite if you get the right pitch. I have some pictures on my website. From what I could see the facilities seemed very good. There is an indoor swimming pool and it looked as though they were constructing and outdoor complex when we were there. I did not investigate the water sports facilities but did walk down to the lake which is separated from the campsite by a road. I don't know what there is available to hire. This campsite accepts Camping Cheques.

We;ve stayed three times and enjoyed it each time.  We've done overnights, and two night stays, never longer, but found everything fine.  We had good pitches - obviously if the weather's been bad you can get mud on any site - even when staying just one night.  The restaurant overlooks the lake and you can watch osprey's diving for their food.  The inddoor pool is small - and when we were there the outdoor pool wasn't started.  We stopped last year at Forge de St Marie and didn't enjoy it as much as Lac du Liez.

It wasn't actually mud, Val and David - we were there during the 2003 heatwave, so mud would have been hard to find! We were given a pitch with a surface that consisted entirely of large lumps of broken up concrete blocks. It was down at the lowest part of the site, near the road and sloped so steeply we were unable to properly level the van! The site facilities looked excellent, but we felt we got a poor deal - after all we paid the same rate per night as people who were there longer, so we saw no reason why we should have been given an inferior pitch.

I don't want to put people off, as I'm sure if you are keen on watersports etc, it has a lot to offer. But perhaps it might be advisable to walk down and check any pitch you are given before finally accepting it!

Thanks folks, now I really don't know what to do!

The only extra thing is that this particular trip we may well be using camping cheques and hiring one of their static mobile homes instead of tenting it.  Having heard about the "lumpy" pitch you had Chrissie I certainly would be wary with our tent.

As its out of season (late May), the difference between the price of a pitch to a discounted mobile home is about £3 a night.  The kids are quite excited about the possibility of a mobile home (always having done canvas before) and the husband is excited about the possibility of a proper bed and indoor loo!

Does anyone remember what the static plots were like, and more info on services/facilities/walking distances to local restaurant/sightseeing opportunities etc really gratefully received.

Sorry, Eric, I don't even remember noticing the static pitches. I am quite sure no one would put a tent on the sort of pitch we had, so I wouldn't worry about that. Most of the pitches were grassy and on terraces. There were lake views from the higher ones.

As for places to eat, the site restaurant/bar is OK (if it is open in low season). I also seem to remember a hotel with restaurant not too far down the road, but we didn't try it.  Langres is a short drive away and a very interesting town to visit. It has loads of options for eating out.

Val

I seem to remember the site having lots of chalets rather than mobile homes.
