This will be my first trip to France in middle of July.  I have promised my teenage daughter good weather and am thinking of going to Benodet so I would appreciate advice on weather for this area.  My other option is St Jean de Monts but involves more driving.  Help please as I need to book asap.

The vendee has always been warmer, in my experience.

When we went to Benodet it peed with rain for 10 days out of 12.  We have been to the vendee three times and never had any rain there....I realise we might just have been lucky.  The vendee is supposed to be warmer as it has a micro climate from the Gulf Stream

hi frances, we stopped at du poulquer in benodet in july / august 2000 and had a great time.the weather was brill most of the time , we just had some light rain one morning and a thunder storm during the night , which didn't bother us one bit.benodet itself was a lovely resort and i for one would recommend it anytime.

Hi Frances

My family and I have stayed at Camping Du Letty in Benodet for 4+ week stays in July/August for 5 out of the last 10 years.  We have generally had excellent weather iwth only a very few rainy days.  Very much like a very hot UK summer giving us great weather for swimmng, sunbathing and generally messing about on the beach.  We found Du Letty the first time we went to France as campers with a frame tent and have returned many time, most recently as caravanners. I ALWAYS sing the praise of Camping Du Letty and Benodet, see my review and those by others on this website:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=5461

My youngest sons, 17 and 19, still plead with us to return to Du Letty even though they're not keen to go anywhere else with us!!

We have, also, caravanned further south, as far as nad into Northern Spain, and generally found that the temperature increases the further south one drives in France.  We personally found the south a bit too hot.

Hope this helps and you have a wonderful time in France.

Regards

Tim

Hi Frances

Tim  again.  I just noticed that you mentioned the need to book.  We have only booked once at Du Letty, NOT fhe first year either.  Du Letty say that they always have room and we have found this to be true.  In France generally we have tended not to book.  When touring we phone ahead on the day and I cannot remember having ever been turned away in 12 years of holidaying in France.  It, also means that if you get somewhere you don't like you can move on.   There are so many campsites in France and usually of a very high standard, including many municipal, ie, council run ones.

Regards

Tim

Hi, we stayed at Port De Plaisance in Benodet in 2004, between May and July. The weather was not great, but Benodet was beautiful, Brittany is very unpredictable.

Last year we stayed on the Vendee from May to July, and saw hardly any rain, just an occasional shower. The temperature was in the 30's when we left. So if you want more of a beach, sunbathing type of holiday, I think you should try St. Jean de Monts.

There are hundreds of campsites to choose from, so enjoy!!

If you want cast iron, written in stone good weather for France then the further south you head the better. The Vendee has an almost med climate in July/August whilst Brittany enjoys similar weather to SW England and can be just as unpredictable. For guaranteed sunny weather I would head for Southern Vendee but I think there is more to see and do in Brittany if you are sightseers.
