Visiting Slovenia for the first time in our campervan and would like someone to recommend some decent campsites. Not bothered about the site having a pool, shop etc. Actually prefer if it was relatively quite.I'll be there in July so perhaps that's being a bit optimistic.

Any suggestions folks?

P.S. A good campsite for visitng Venice?

We often stop off for a couple of days at Lake Bled when en-route to Croatia.

Camping Sobec is just outside Bled or Camping Bled which is right on the lake itself with lovely views of the castle. Both are lovely sites, though quite busy when we go which is in August. Both in CC guide.

Nearer to Zagreb (but still in Slovenia) is Terme-Catez at Brezcise. It's built on a natural spa with several pools/jacuzzi's all filled with 30 degree plus natural spa water. access is free when you camp. Again only been in august when it's busy.

When we went to venice we stayed at Lido de Jessolo. There are several nice sites and you get a ferry into Venice. Again check out the CC guide for details.

We went a few years ago. rReally nice was Camping Danica in Bohinj, a liitle way out of Bled. We also stayed in Terme Catez, which is great if you like warm water. Everyone always goes on about Slovenia being cheap - but we didn't think that at all.

Marina de Venezia is a great site in Lido de Jessolo, lots to do lovely olympic size pool also has a fun pool. Plenty of shops and restaurants . The outdoor cabaret is very good. A bus at the gate takes you to the ferry, to go to Venice

Our favorite site in Slovenia is Camp Dolina, Dolenja Vas 147,Prebold. (03) 5724378.

The site is the garden of the owners house. It is all spotlessly clean with beautiful toilets. A small pool is available if the weather is hot. They have a small bar. open in the evenings. It's a very quiet site, the bar seats about twelve people if you include the two tables outside. Everything is very friendly and laid back.

Two excellent restaurants are within ten minutes walk. Excelent walking is available in the Savinja valley and some impressive Roman ruins are within easy cycling distance (guided tours are available free of charge from a house close by - see notice in English on the gate. The largest cave complex in Europe is not too far to drive and of course all the usual sites can be reached within an hour or so, by road.

From the old Ljubijana - Celje road turn right into Prebold, the site is down a lane on the right just before you cross the little stream into Prebold (well signposted). No doubt Prebold will be signposted from the new Motorway, if its open right through yet.

Please don't tell anybody, but this beautiful, quiet, clean site has never been full, to our knowledge, although we have only stayed there in late June, early July.
