We are venturing over to France for the first time to camp in our folding Rapido caravan, after many years in this country.  I have managed to get a really good ferry deal to Boulogne.  I have read about a few sites around this area but they seem more geared up to overnight stayers.  As we are travelling with two small children (aged 4 and 11 months), we dont really want to travel far after getting off the ferry, as they would already have had quite a journey to Dover from South Wales. 

Can anyone recommend a campsite close to Boulogne, suitable for young children, and more equipped for longer stays, ie bigger pitches etc.

Theres a (cheap)camping municipal at Le Portel which is part of Boulogne & overlooks a nice big beach--I would suggest you get a map of the area & travel anther 30 miles down the coast to Berck-sur-mer-a nice seaside resort-campsites there near the beach & much nicer than Boulogne--

I should add that the campsites in Northern France coast dont exist soley for the benifit of Brits staying one night before rushing off down south---many French folk living in nearby inland towns park their caravans & tents on coastal sites all seasons-for weekends & holidays---the 'ambience' is just as 'French' as 100s of miles further south--

Our kids love Camping Le Bien Assise in Guines, although it does have a high turnover it never feels busy with people coming and going.  It is about half an hour from Boulogne.  There is a heated indoor pool and a small paddling area for little ones, a good playground for all ages, mini-golf and a lovely (but not cheap) french restaurant on-site.  The shop is reasonably well stocked and has nappies etc.  

We have been three times, on the kids request, and have used it both for a weeks stay and overnight (now that we are a bit more daring and drive further!)

This year we are going to try Chateau de Ganspette which others have recommended, wish us luck
