tatersall - I'm off to Soleil Plage in July. The following review is from 'tethersend'
Great location next to a superb river with safe bathing for kids, fishing, snorkelling, Canoeing. Pebble and sand beaches available if you want to BBQ on the bank or on the island.
Good sports facilities - canoe, tennis, table tennis and new multisports [tennis/baketball/footie/etc.] Good pool complex with some amazing banana plants. Golf just down the road [1km] but not cheap.
Easy access to Sarlat and other Dordogne towns.
Friendly management, pleasant restaurant. Bar is small but terrace under the walnut tree is a good place to enjoy a wine or two. [maybe more]
We wondered if going back for a 3rd year was a mistake but when we arrived the kids inflated the water toys and set off for the river whilst adults put their feet up and relaxed knowing 13 and 11 year old kids could play safely. 20 minutes later we had 2 amused kids and 2 relaxed adults - and so it remained for the rest of the week.
If you like to go and explore then you will find loads of history/culture in the area - Those with an interest in history will need several weeks to scratch the surface of all that is offered and those who have an interest in food will not be disappointed either.
We have been to places where more entertainment is prearranged and more happens of an evening but we have never found a site with a better location or where a more relaxing atmosphere is to be found. Suggest Le Moulinal at Biron has more arranged entertainment and an equally good atmosphere but its lake is no match for the Dordogne when it comes to a location.
How old are the kids? Mine are 11 and 13 - they love the river - its clean and warm. Fishing rods and snorkel/mask are essentials. The bar is simple with no Neon lights. There at the end of august - we may get to say hell.o
sounds great, we arrive on the 14th august for 2 weeks , hopefully there will be plenty for the lads to do, they like water sports . stopping of at Chambord on the way down and at Pierrefitte on the way back . never been so far before , been to the Loire for 4 years , always wanted to try the Dordogne wife not keen on the drive but with a stop over on the way should n't be to bad .

perhaps I'll see you there. We arrive 26th for a week on way back from Med. We intend to blow up the boats, make up the rods, grab the masks and make straight for the island in the river at the top of the site. My gallery image 2 is of the beach in early evening [If you are into wildlife you might be interested to see image 3 of a beaver in the Dourbie]
Dordogne is supposed to be the cleanest river in France - you will see more kingfishers than rubbish. We did a 30Km decent from souillac to vitrac a couple of years ago - the river was almost deserted apart from us, the wildlife and some english students crashed out in the bottom of their boat as they drifted gently along in a cloud of herbal smoke ;-))listening to Pink Floyd.
The site is ideally situated -right next to the river with an island, rapids, calm places and some stunning cliffs. It is also dead easy to get to Ctre L'Eclerc in Sarlat - up to the main road, turn right, first 'non dead end' left and follow the signs to Sarlat - you miss all the traffic. Sarlat is a tourist town but it is a great tourist town - good tourist market, great illuminations by night - make sure you try Domme too - and the pizza takeaway at cenac et saint jullien
in fact there is far too much to recommend
As its motorway all the way to souillac the drive isn't too bad at all - which crossing are you using?

I guess you are going around Paris via Rouen then? If you pick up teh MWay at Orleans again then see how long it is before you see a house after leaving Orleans - Last year I made it about 60 miles - but I wasn't concentrating until I became aware I had not seen a house for a LONG time.
