Hi,

We're taking a sleeper coach round some destinations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark.  It has a loo and handbasin but we need to take some information on where we can get showered and empty the loo.  I've done some searching and got bits of information but I wondered if anyone can help with any of the following:

1. What are the roadside / service station / truck stop facilities like and are they likely to have showers that we could use?

2. Any directories of camp sites and youth hostels / sanitation points that I could find on line and print off.

It's a bit unusual as we don't actually want to camp but would ideally like to pay a few Krona to use camp site shower block for half an hour or so and also to sort the loo out.  Not sure how realistic this is or where exactly we will be when so I was hoping to take as much info. as possible and phone ahead to some likely ones when we are en-route.

thanks for any help

H

If you Google "campsites in Norway" you will get a big list you can print out, probably the same for Sweden and Denmark.   I know Norway has service points for motorhomes in larger towns, you can empty the toilet, water tank, and fill fresh water.  If you contact sites in advance you may be able to arrange to use their facilities for a fee, but expect it to be more than a few kroner!!

Not familiar with the truckstops so can't help you there.  There are very few motorways but I expect there must be truckstops on main roads.

Just wondering exactly what a "sleeper coach" is??   Is somebody driving while others are sleeping?  How many people are we talking about?  If it is several then that might be a problem for some sites.

we were in Voss in Norway last summer and noted the camper car parks with water/emptying facilities and they seemed pretty well signposted etc, can't help re showers etc though, we stopped at a couple of services for a burger for the kids etc and they were great, also the petrol stations seemed to be well stocked and had hot drinks etc and warm food.....just keep saving your penniesthey don't go far but well worth it!!

We are travelling in one of these:

http://www.fairline-gmbh.de/nightliner_e.php

Not sure which one but there are 12 of us +proper driver  so I guess one that sleeps that many!  Yes, we are mental and I know it is going to be expensive given the destinations but not likely to be something I do again in my life!  Next question is probably why? We are following our favourite band round on their Scandinavian tour (usually I use car or train!!!)   Basically we need to suss how to keep at least reasonably clean or the place will be a midden by the end of it all!

I have found some lists of camping sites and am going to print them off.  I did find a site that had maps showing all the sanitation points but can't find that one again but I guess they are fairly prominent.

By the way I also do proper camping too and have found this site and the message boards to be very useful over the last couple of years; in particular the camp site reviews and peoples views of different kit etc.  In short, thanks very much to all the people that make these contributions here, very helpful.  Looking forward to camping at some music festivals this summer and also just general camping, walking cycling and enjoying the rural pubs and real ale!

cheers

H

I am all curious now!  What band are you following?  The coach is out of this world, shame they haven't fitted any showers to it though huh.

New Model Army.

Yes, a shower would have been handy but I guess they aren't usually designed for such long use without stopping off somewhere.  They are probably mainly for bands themselves to actually use and so they will get showered at the venue.....or not!

Am gradually sussing out a few hostels and camp sites along our route that will be open at that time of year so hopefully we can stop off a couple of times.  We've also sussed out the public baths in each town so we can have a shower there as well as a swim!
