we have 2 yorkies and have taken them abroad many times. in fact we are off to italy with them in a couple of weeks. we have never had any problems.we always take the dover-calais route as it means the dogs are only left for 90 mins on their own as they are not allowed upstairs on the ferry. it costs me £30 per dog and that is all you pay .you must get the dogs tick and worm treated between 24 and 48 hours before you return to u.k. if you want you can get that done and spend that time travelling back to the port (gives you an extra day at your site) you can also take the treatment with you for the vet to administer (makes the bill a bit less) hope this helps you .

Most towns and alot of villages here in France have a vet that speaks some English. We have a great choice around us here at Le Chant. There's the vet that treats our own pup in Vernoil. He speaks excellent English. There's also a good vet in Longue, around a 10 min drive from us. Last but not least there's an excellent practice in Saumur itself which is around 20 mins from us. Most of the vets in popular areas are now au fait with the Pets Passport Scheme, although not all carry the scanner for the microchip.
