On arrival in Austria where do I purchase a vignette

If you do a Google for Austrian tolls it should take you to the official site which has a list of places where you can buy the vignette. We crossed into Austria near Reutte and there is a cafe/store right at the old border crossing. From memory I think you can get them at filling stations as you approach Austria.

Yes, you can buy them at any services as you approach Austria.  Each one will last for 10 days, if you are staying any longer you will have to buy another one, but they are readily available at many outlets all over the country.

Hope you enjoy Austria, one of our favourite countries.... just had a wonderful week skiing there in February, fabulous.  Equally wonderful in the summer of course.

You can buy them at filling stations as you say, but they are available for various lengths of time.  10 days is the shortest, next is 2 months (still not expensive).

But this is not a toll. it is a vignette (motorway tax).  If you do not use motorways, you do not need one.  There are one or two tolls, for example the Arlberg tunnel, or the Brenner pass - into Italy.
