  hi, we are off to i pini in italy in a few weeks. i am wondering whether to go down through switzerland and if we do i will have to buy two vignettes (one each for car and van) or would i be better to run down to macon and cross via the mont-blanc tunnel. any advice would be great.  ta.

I do this trip afew times a year and always use Belguim, Luxembourg(cheap fuel), Germany, Austria through the Brenner pass to Italy it's a lot cheaper and quicker than other routes, no tolls until Austria you will have the Italian tolls when you use the autostrada in Italy.

Nero's route is fine with a caravan, we have been to Italy that way and we have used the Fern Pass. Not sure if Rostrevor is around but he often suggests the route through France and Switzerland as its a shorter distance so you save on fuel. Might be worth checking both routes. If you go to Via Michelin it can give you the tolls for the journey. Germany is a lovely country to camp in but caravans are restricted to 80kms an hour and mainly no overtaking on two lane autobahns so the journey might not be as fast as you imagine.
