We were thinking of going to Argeles sur Mer at camping Le Soliel but have just checked out the Eurocamp and it lists it as lively and approx 1200 pitches. We normally like small to medium sites ( 150-250 ) has amyone either stayed at this site or have other recomendations for the Med.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
it's more or less the same with the campsites on the Med coast. They ALL seem HUGE! The type of site you're looking for will probably be found a little further inland. Be warned though, as the sites on the coast get fuller, the sites inland will be taking up the overspill. The Med's a very popular area to visit. We've been down a couple of times and found it wasn't really to our tastes. The hinterland of the Herault region was stunning though.
We love the Mediterranean coast of France and have been most years recently. Last year went down to Antibes so we could go to Monaco for the Grand Prix. We have also stayed at a couple of sites in Port Grimaud - Prairies de la Mer and Camping de la Plage, we have stayed at Camping le Boucanet at Le Grau du Roi, and La Vieille Ferme near Antibes. Happy to provide more details if you want to e-mail me.
It may help if we knew when you are going, as, if it is late July, or August, the comments about it being very busy in this area, are very true. The local ex pats hardly go onto the roads during these times as it is so busy.
Jim.
La Sirene at Argeles is very big - and very commercial. My son worked there last year. It has all the 'tour operators' - Eurocamp, Canvas, Keycamp, etc.. It also has a great swimming pool complex - but it's a fair hike to the beach from the site - and it's VERY HOT in August. If you want a real 'on the beach' site - literally - then I can recommend Le Boucanet at Grau du Roi - you can have a pitch adjoining the beach. It's not too big, the pool is fine, and the restaurant does good local food. Another nice smaller site is Le Neptune at Grau d'Agde - not so near the beach, but about the same distance as from La Sirene. Both sites are on a much smaller scale than Argeles, and a different type of atmosphere.
