Anyone know if there are any electrical sockets in the cabins on the portsmouth/bilboa ferry and if so what type - i.e continental or uk.  Also has anyone used it for a kettle ? .  Given its a 2  night crossing I'll be wanting to play the the kids a few DVD's on the portable player, recharge the Nintendo DS and possibly brew a few cups of tea to avoid what I expect will be extortionate charges on board.

Any other tips regarding the crossing would be much appreciated.

Hi Adam

The socket in the cabin are the 2 pin type like you get in France.

I suggest you make-up a 2 pin plug on a UK extension lead with with 2/4 sockets on it.

Don't let your wife/kids to use them all at the same time!

I hope this helps

make sure you take binoculars with you, rumour has it you may see whales, although this is apparently more likey on the return journey.   and if you are going to brew up suggest you use a low power camping kettle.

I took a travel kettle when I went on the Portsmouth/Bilbao route so that I could make coffee in the cabin and took breakfast cereals also and some UHT milk as the facilities on the boat are quite expensive.

We use a small travel kettle in the cabin and we now take our own drinking water although the water on board the ship is supposed to be pottable it is desalinated on board and is not very tasty. the two pin adapters can be bought on board but cheaper ashore. Bottled drinking water is also expensive in the ships shop. Have a nice trip

...I wish we'd have taken the blow up camping pillows to put under the bunk ones as they were like pancakes when we went to Norway, and yes take plenty of picnic things too as they are dear - there were fridge compartments you could hire too on our ferry - nr reception area in a block of lockers, all the ships probably have them but we didn't know about them till afterwards which could be handy.....have a good time!
