Anyone know the speed limit for towing in Spain on the toll roads/motorways. Have seen some websites stating 50mph for highways but don't know if this refers to tollways.

It seems that Spain in common with quite a few countries in Europe have a rather low speed limit of 50mph. It applies regardless of road, except where a lower limit is indicated.
Doh! was going to drive across Spain from Bilboa. Will now consider driving into France and across France on the A64 and A61 then A9 back into Spain at the Costa Brava - any comments on this?

Cost of ferry to Bilbao is effectively free as I'm using Tesco vouchers. I also live quite close to Porstmouth. I figured the drive to Dover then down to Costa Brava would get me there about the same time as using the ferry to bilbao then driving driving across Spain (or France as it probably turns out now). Also, first week is in Costa Brava, second in Pyrenees and third in Noja not far from Bilboa, therefore final drive from campsite to ferry is about 50 mins.
I'm still not entirely convinced about the speed limit as I continue to see conflicting advice, but to be safe I'll probably use the French rather than the Spanish roads.
We always thought as you do that the long drive is cheaper, but this year we kept a record of expenses .We paid £72 return ferry to Ostend and went via Tournai,Beaune to L'Estarit.lots of tolls. Return from Haro.Bordeaux,Poiters and Rouen, hardly any tolls. Overall we decided that there was hardly any diference, except of course the mileage on the car. It would be cheaper if you had less overnight stops.
