This place looks amazing, has anyone actually been? If so, is it as good as it looks on the website, and is it suitable for under 5's as well as older children?

Hi Amanda,  This is my first post.  We went to Puy du fou about 3 years ago and it was FANTASTIC!  My boys were 3 and 5 at the time and we all loved it we went twice during our stay in the Vendee.  I really can't recommend it enough.  You will not regret going!

Do try not to miss any of the shows/spectacles especially the birds of prey, the gladiators and the battle for the keep.  i think the have a new musketeer type show too..  Do take your own food and drinks though as food was expensive and nasty!  We would love to go there again but we hated where we were staying so will have to find somewhere lovely to stay locally first.  Anyway do go to Puy du fou you really wont regret it!  Enjoy!

Thanks Moll! We can't make it there this year as we are going in the opposite direction, but fancy the Vendee next year (2007) so we can go as I know my DH and the boys would love it. Where did you stay that you didn't like, if you don't mind me asking? Nice to know where to avoid!!

Amanda

The Puy du Fou's quite simply un-missable in this part of France. Be warned though, that if you want to go to the 'Cinescenie', (night-time show), it gets booked up pretty fast!

We went last year for a day out and we were completely amazed by what we saw!

If you're in the Vendee it's a given!

We visited the Puy Do Fou a couple of years back. Was amazed. We missed one show (the medievel show), so will be returning this year to see it (and the others again).
I haven't really seen anything like it over here. At least, not all in one place anyway.

"Did" Puy du Fou last year. Superb. Get there early, you need a full day.

Oooh yes, unmissable! Don`t bother with the evening show till the kids are a bit older though...they`ll be totally knackered by the end of a day in the park and will either whinge or fall asleep. We`re waiting till our youngest is seven or eight.

If you do a search there`s a lot of comments about this place.Good thread from last year here....

We did Puy Du Fou last year and loved every second of it. I think it's suitable for kids of all ages. It really is a must if you're that way on.

Hi

Can anyone recommend a good campsite in that area then?

Cheers

Well, we're around an hour away. So I'd recommend us, lol! Seriously, there are lots of campsites in the area. Try an internet search for Camping Puy Du Fou?

There's Vallee des Vignes at Doue la Fontaine, there's Le Serpolin at Clere sur Layon. There's loads. All good stuff.

Amanda, we've been 3 times - last year we went to the cinescenie as well, tho' I wouldn't   recommend that for little children, as it doesn't start till 10.30pm.  First time we went was in 2000 when my son was only 4 but he was totally enthralled.

We love it so much we are going again this year for two days, and we can't wait to see the new show.  I love it so much I talked all about it in my French Oral last week!

We are going to Camping Puy Rond as it's not far away - it's in the list of French Campsites on here. Robert and Amanda will make you very welcome.

One thing I would suggest - take loads of water and suncream and sunhats - the shows are all out in the open with no shade at all, and you sit for about 30 minutes or more in what can be pretty intense heat.  There are a lot of shaded places to recuperate, but you have to walk (or more likely race) from show to show and you will need all the water you can carry.

Don't miss it - you'll love it!

Went last year, kids were entranced!! Well worth the euros but would advise if you want to experience the evening show book well in advance.

Bags.

Fantastic day out, not to be missed.

One word of warning, especially with the little one, remember your sun hats.

We forgot ours and nearly passed out in the Gladiator show until we made some paper hats out of the leaflets we had. We ended up making and showing the French how to make paper hats as well, funny that as all the hats were of the Napoleon / Sail shaped variety. You would have thought they would have known!

Have a great day

Go along with all comments on here. Especially sun hats and cream. Can't begin to describe the events at the night time show. You have to see it to believe it. A bit late for little ones though. We left at nearly 1.30am.

We stayed at Camping La Breteche in Les Epesses which is about 2 miles away. Nice site, good facilities and the village swimming pool is at the entrance which was free to campers.

Ditto all the above comments! It's a fantastic day out. We went last year and are going again this year. We tried to book for the evening show in January but it had already sold out until the middle of June so do get booked in early if you want to see the evening show.
