We're heading to Pachacaid and i've just checked the website and unfortunately states "No BBQ's allowed". Not a huge deal as we're staying in one of these mobile home jobbies so will have a full kitchen.

I doubt I will go hungry :-)

For the main meal I usually cook steak, strips of chicken or duck, pork fillet or occasionally lamb steaks, or prawns, or lardons naturel (unsmoked bacon bits) on a gas barbeque (you could use a large frying pan) in olive oil with whole cloves of garlic. Sometimes I sprinkle herbs de provence over the meat just before cooking. I cook locally grown courgettes (the round ones are really yummy), peppers, tomotoes etc along side the meat. Served with salad and often chips bought from the site restuarant/takeaway or pasta and french bread. We rarely have room for dessert but I always have fruit available. All washed down with inexpensive wine.

Our light meal normally in the heat of the day, is usually whatever fresh fruit is available, melon, peaches etc with cheeses and pate and fresh bread.

I don`t like anymore work than necessary on holiday and find that these meals are easy to buy for and easy to prepare and clean up after. I have always found a wonderful variety of fresh fruits, salads and breads readily available so there is plenty of combinations to choose from each day. And plenty of choices for any fussy eaters amongst the kids (of all ages lol)

Have a great holiday

Although this is our first year camping we have been to France many times. We always eat loads of moules and huitres but the most simple thing to do in the evenings is just to have some fresh french bread, some goats cheese, some olives and some beautfully ripe vine tomatoes. Open a bottle of wine and just pick at the food. Heaven!

Look out for something our family call lardon bread. No idea of the French name, but basically it`s like a big nan bread or pizza base with  bacon bits baked into the top. Great picnic food.

I can't speak for Nottingham, but here in Edinburgh it's perfectly possible to eat what most of the above posts mention!

In fact -   'the most simple thing to do in the evenings is just to have some fresh french bread, some goats cheese, some olives and some beautfully ripe vine tomatoes. Open a bottle of wine and just pick at the food. Heaven! '   is very much the sort of thing we eat lots of!

But Edinburgh is not France, so I know what you mean, lol!

Barbecued fresh sardines - delicious and readily available in supermarkets.   Last year, we discovered that ELECTRIC BARBECUES are popular in France.   Initially, I thought the person at our site was joking when they said that only electric BBQs were permissible - but, no - she was right.   They are like an upside-down grill with the element fixed over a base which you fill with water.   The results are surprisingly good - we bought a Tefal one from the local Intermarche - about £15 I think, and worth it.

Some French sites where charcoal bbq's are not permitted, do actually have communal places with bbqs so if you really clever you can use someone elses charcoal which is heated to cooking perfection as they couldn't wait for it to heat up properly.   The moules nights and couscous nights are great we have been to a couple of them on sites we have been too good value for money, and a great way to meet up with others on the site. I have cooked paella, moules marinieres, curry, as well as the more usual bbq's and salad. Not to mention that old staple spaghetti bolognaise. The merguez sausages are great and so is the bbq meat they sell, so much better than the stuff here. Fish and shellfish are wonderful, I can't wait.

We do everything that we can get our hands on. Moules mariner, barbequed red mullet, in fact anything and everything that is barbarquable!, we also tend to eat locally alot go for the smaller restaurants they usually are really good value and the food is to die for. Avoid chips and pizza at all costs!
