We've often stayed for one or two nights at the Municipal site at Pont Audemer - Risle-Seine Les Etangs. It's a pleasant little site beside a lake but with not many facilities. There is quite lot to see and do in the area and it's often used as an overnight stop for people using the Le Havre crossing.

Look for Municipal sites, they are usually excellent and good value. Presume that you will be moving around frequently - there are lots of smaller sites in Finisterre, the larger sites tend to be near the beaches.
Whereabouts were you thinking of? If you can cope with lots of brits there is a nice spot just outside Chateaulin in Finisterre, La Pointe Superbe - run by a couple from York. Good municipal site in a nice spot near Cherbourg, Tourlaville, almost on the beach.

Maybe too far away from Nantes - about 40 miles NW into Brittany but good access to coast, very nice village and area, quiet, good clean showers and wash facilities etc
Ancenis - right on the river, Beaumont sur Sarthe - also right on the river and very convenient for town. Both sites have staff who speak excellent englsih but I recommend you always start off in French - it is appreciated. see here for ancenis web site http://.com/lu9wt

i am travelling from calais to rouen on to rennes then onto nantes in france in a motorhome , can anyone recommend any small campsites they may have used etc as this will be my first trip in motorhome
i can highly reccomend camping Haliotis at Pontorson close to Mont St Michel. ok, its not a really small site but has superb level individual pitches and one of the best atmospheres ive ever come across on a campsite. a real mix of nationalities , very welcoming owners who go out of there way to make you feel welcome. theres a largish supermarket within walking distance of the site and you`re within 3 miles of mont st michel. its also just off the main road from Caen to rennes, ideal !!!
